Summary

Thank You, Jeeves is the first novel to feature the incomparable valet Jeeves and his hapless charge Bertie Wooster - and you've hardly started when he resigns over Bertie's dedicated but somewhat untuneful playing of the banjo. In high dudgeon, Bertie disappears to the country as a guest of his chum Chuffy - only to find his peace shattered by the arrival of his ex-fiancée Pauline Stoker, her formidable father and the eminent loony-doctor Sir Roderick Glossop.

When Chuffy falls in love with Pauline and Bertie seems to be caught in flagrante, a situation boils up which only Jeeves (whether employed or not) can simmer down...A display of sustained comic brilliance, this novel shows Wodehouse rising to the top of his game.

Of its time

This is not a book for those offended by racist language. it was written in a time when the use of words such as negro was considered normal. It also discusses blacking ups a way if disguise. However, if you accept this as a book of its time, it's a good, light hearted read.
Personally, I love Wodehouse, but it's not for everyone.

laugh out loud funny

there aren't many books I genuinely lol at but this book had me in tears of laughter. the narrator does an outstanding job and I really do feel his reading made the humour that much more enjoyable. time for me to get all other books in the series now!

Excellent classic J&W long story

Another brilliant long story from Wodehouse. Hilarious madcap caper in the countryside. Excellently performed by Cecil. (Note, contains historic use of “negro” adjective and features white men ‘blacking up’)

Brilliantly presented.

It’s Jeeves and Wooster - you know what you’re getting as far as the content goes. The quality all depends on the actors. Every voice was perfect, made me laugh out loud so many times. Excellent.

Wodehouse / Cecil combo scores 10/10 again

If you could sum up Thank You, Jeeves in three words, what would they be?

Top quality entertainment

What did you like best about this story?

Wodehouse's writing is possibly the best I have ever read (or listened to, in this case)

Which character – as performed by Jonathan Cecil – was your favourite?

Cecil gives a fantastic performance as Bertie Wooster, although actually his subtle portrayal of the other characters is just as good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and I have re-listened to it several times.

Perhaps the most perfect Jeeves denouement...

Definitely one of my favourite Jeeves books. The plot twists are as tangled as ever, the characters finely drawn, and as sweet an ending as one could wish.

Wonderful.

Simply one of the best, Bertie and Jeeves on top form, complete with tangled love affair, repulsive children, Sir Roderick Glossop and the enibriated Brinkley, the five year planner. Pure enjoyment.
