Summary

Global bestselling author of River God and The New Kingdom, Wilbur Smith, returns with the next epic book in his brand-new Ancient Egyptian series.

FROM THE RUINS OF BATTLE
A HERO MUST RISE
FOR THE GLORY OF EGYPT

Years of Hyksos rule have seen the plunder of once-mighty Egypt. Though the two kingdoms have now been reunited by the armies of the true Pharaoh, his position is perilous, his rule under threat from those who seek to take advantage of the turmoil created by the overthrow of the Hyksos. Desperate to keep Egypt united, Taita the Magus summons his protégé, Piay, to solve a millennia-old riddle which has the power to secure Egypt's future forever.

But in the tumult of war, an evil has thrived. Malevolent followers of Seth, the god of chaos, are determined to claim this power and usher in a new age of darkness.

The fate of Egypt is at stake. Can Piay prevent their land falling into the hands of those who would see its ruin?

No Chapters

So the worst Wilbur Smith publication I have listened to.
The estate has changed publisher. No chapters to go back to. I can’t be the only one who snoozes in bed and loses their place. Start & finish only which is impossible to find a place in the book without restarting from the beginning, Not O I was on chapter 6 so must of list Liston I
Didn’t enjoy this book experience. I will have to wait and start it all over again. You can skip back 30 seconds but this does not help if you have left the last couple of hours running. I’m asking for a refund and extra credits
The writing is on par with his other books.
If only they had stayed with the original publishers!!!!!!!

It was ok.

I really enjoyed Wilbur, Smith’s Egyptian trilogy. The plots were excellent and Taita’s so-called humility always brought a smile. The pace of the earlier books was also very good and that’s what leaves me with a problem with this book.

I always listen to the audiobooks at a speed of .9. Two reasons number one, I like to listen slowly, and being somewhat tight, I look at it that I get 10% extra on the timing! However, I found that with this book, the plot was very slow and the storyline predictable. Yes, you have the usual baddies. How they try to cover their tracks before we are supposed to realise they are a baddie must always be hard to conjure up. But the story just didn’t grab me. The main body, son of Seth, appeared more like a dodgy kebab shop, owner and somebody to pray to the devil. We couldn’t just get a feeling of deep malice. Did I guess one should’ve got from somebody who was called the child killer.

I’m now standing here wondering what else to say as to be honest I can’t remember a great deal of the book, the way the plot flowed and that’s really why I can only say it was okay. Let me a little distracted, but I wasn’t gripped.

Disappointed

Lost the spirit and feel of the early books in the series, couldn’t even get through it.

Not vintage Wilbur Smith. Very different from rest of ancient Egypt series, unfortunately. Hope the next reverts to tried & tested recipe

not wilbur smith HORRIBLE

Wilbur sadly passed away, now they are releasing books in his name, they may be ideas from wilbur smith, but not his writing, I have read all of wilbur smiths books, some several times, I know his style, all the books since his death are not his writing, poorly written, audio even worse, testament was the last straw, AWFUL BOOK

I wish the family would stop this, so disrespectful to his name.

I for one will not be buying any more new wilbur smith, RIP Wilbur, if they will let you
