Critic reviews

Praise for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children: "A tense, moving, and wondrously strange first novel. The photographs and text work together brilliantly to create an unforgettable story." (John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars)

Chilling Stories

I really can't recommend this Audible book the 3 narrator's have done a marvellous job and Simon Callow gets the juicy ones. Very enjoyable

Totally wonderful

Would you listen to Tales of the Peculiar again? Why?

Definitely - even if the book wasn't as fun, Simon Callow's reading of it is out of this world!

What did you like best about this story?

The cleverness of the stories and the morality of the characters

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favourite?

All of them, the narration was perfect in every way.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Some of the stories are quite sad, but they usually have an upbeat ending - even the last one which is should supposedly end sadly has a happier ending added by "the editor".

Any additional comments?

This is such a lovely book to listen to - one of my favourite ever audio books.

Brilliant stories couldn't stop listening to it

My kids and me kept listening to the story in the car even though our journey was long finished. We enjoyed each of the stories in the book and we are looking forward to any future books from Ransom. Keep up the good work.

brilliant!,

I am totally addicted to all these stories, can't recommend the books highly enough. But then I am a little peculiar myself and so therefore find the information very useful😜🤭

loved these stories from the peculiar world. They are fables with originality but still seems familiar in a way.

A little bit fabulous, each and every one!

Loved hearing Millard's defining collection of the Peculiar Tales. Simon Callow's marvellous treacly, plummy accent fits perfectly.

Wow!

I am 58 and I just LOVED these stories, especially the first one. Genius!

I grew up with fairy tales but of course would not read them now and even if one day I read them to any future grandchildren I will know them all and it sure a new generation would enjoy the old tales in the same way. These have that same fairy tale type quality but are new and inventive. They tend to have some kind of moral tale but this is more shown than told, or forced down the reader’s throat.

Great imagination, great execution and also great narration by Simon Callow, even if a couple of the accents were a bit dodgy here and there.

I can imagine kids would love these too so this would be an excellent choice for a long family car journey for example. I am tempted to try the rest by this author. Just as Harry Potter can be enjoyed by children and adults Ransom Riggs seems to have this same talent. Excellent stuff

TREMENDOUS 5 STAR FUN

This is a fabulous collection of Peculiar Stories, all of which you have never heard the likes. A set of fables come to life and perfectly read by Simon Cowell whom I generally never listen to nor watch because he is the same in everything and usually false and predictable; however, Simon reads this collection delectably and I give him 100% WoW! Well worth a credit and definitely an audible we will listen to time and again. The only story we do not like is “Dreams” as this is not fantasy but based too much like whareal life America and what happening year in & year out.
