About this listen

Never shoot an ogre in the face...

That’s only one of the painful lessons I learned over the course of my career.

My name is Duke. Duke Grandfather. And for years, I was the best at what I did.

From the moment I first saw the barbarian and what he did to the goblin, my life was destined. Not that the goblin didn’t deserve it, mind you. Once I was established, life was grand. I loved my job and the freedom it gave me to sleep late and drink ale whenever I wanted. And then that dwarf changed everything.

Well, truth be known, it was overdue, really. And if anything, it led to me to the attention of Lilly. And she changed my life even more than the dwarf had.

Orcs in love, elder beings, and rogue witches’ brooms. I’ve seen it all.

I’ve even had to kill a friend.

Pull up a chair. Buy me an ale or three, and in return, I’ll tell you all about it.

“Despite the ungodly, early hour of right before noon there was actually somebody else already there”

A really enjoyable series of stories suitable for most ages! Such an easy listen but filled with tons of adventures!
Great narration too. He really fits well with the style of the story.
I’d happily listen to a ton more of these tales!
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.

Great Listen.

I found this to be a thoroughly enjoyable book that once started I had to finish in more or less one sitting so to speak. It fast paced short stories as told by a grandfather to his grandson who uses a tablet and scribe to record them. They are funny and silly in some parts but I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a cheerful light-hearted read. I will certainly be looking to read more of this authors work. The narration too was excellent with the narrator sounding as if he was really enjoying the read.
I was kindly given a review copy of this book by the author and voluntarily leave this honest review with no spoilers!☺

Entertaining city based fantasy fun

A thoroughly enjoyable listen. The novel follows a classic format of a grandfather regaling his grandson with stories of his youth and has that wonderful cosy feeling of familiarity about it. Each chapter features a single tale with recurring characters expanding their back stories followed by an interlude set in the fantasy world's present day working as segue between them. The book reminds me somewhat of a cross between of Jim Henson's "The Storyteller" TV series from the late 80s and Simon R. Green's "Hawk & Fisher" novels with a healthy dose of humour added to boot. T. L. Howell's narration is excellent and really brings to life each of the unique characters portrayed (especially the main character, Duke Grandfather). If you like city based fantasy novels featuring a swathe of fantasy creatures with plenty of laughs along the way then I strongly recommend "Tales of a Nuisance Man".
