About this listen

If you haven't met a Moomin yet, you're in for the most magical fun! The unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Tove Jansson's endearing classic, Tales from Moominvalley, read with warmth (and some lively character voices) by the comedian Hugh Dennis. If you found a tiny golden dragon with green paws, would you know what to do with it? Well, Moomintroll thinks he knows what to do. But when he takes his new-found pet home, things don't quite work out as planned! Here is a delightful collection of stories in which Moomintroll meets some new characters such as the Fillyjonk and the Hattifatteners, as well as sharing adventures with old friends, namely Snufkin and Little My.©1973 Tove Jansson (P)2012 Penguin Audio Classics Funny

Critic reviews

“The Moomin books make for both splendid bedtime read-alouds and solitary savoring.” ( Wall Street Journal)
“A lost treasure now rediscovered . . . A surrealist masterpiece.” (Neil Gaiman)
“Jansson was a genius of a very subtle kind. These simple stories resonate with profound and complex emotions that are like nothing else in literature for children or adults: intensely Nordic, and completely universal." (Philip Pullman)

Excellent narration from Hugh Dennis!

Perfect for listening to as Autumn approaches, each story took me back to my childhood enjoying the Moomin books. Hugh Dennis, and his awesome accents, are just excellent!

Moomins are my favourite

Im an adult but find great peace in these beautiful stories. Very fun narration and surprisingly relatable tales on some occasions. Thoroughly enjoyed listening while working on my crochet projects.

Loving these books.

This is the second Tales from Moomin Valley I've bought and will be buying another. Very well read and enduring. Hugh is a great narrator and does good justice to the written books.

Perfect reading. Great voices. Captured Tove’s magic. Love it. ESP the profound Christmas story at the end.

Voices

I didn't like the voices of Little My and Sniff - too screechy and hurt my ears.

Moomin

Love the moomins, but did not like the narrator and the overly dramatized rendition. Sadly disappointed, think Kate Winslet might perform a better version of these classics.
