Summary
The third novel in The Kelly Clark Mystery Series!
Annie Hansen’s Take the Donut takes the listener further into Kelly’s mysterious backstory. Kelly’s past has been something she’s been trying to hide from, but when a new piece of evidence is brought to light, she is tempted to try and change the story altogether.
Kelly Clark has spent the last three years of her life running from her tumultuous past. With her violent ex-husband, Steve, locked up, Kelly is now in a supportive and loving relationship with her boyfriend, Jack, and reconnecting with her two sisters. Kelly finds time to help her sister, Adelle, launch a new donut business, while also getting her parents to move back to their hometown of Geneva, IL from their home in Miami.
But when a jailbreak at Steve’s prison threatens her safety, Kelly is drawn once again to solving the mystery of what made her ex-husband derail in the first place. When Kelly finds out one of her close family members may have been involved in Steve’s fraudulent money schemes, Kelly begins to doubt everyone around her. Did she trust the wrong people? Is Steve coming back to get his revenge on Kelly? Featuring an interesting heroine who is determined to make a new start, Take the Donut is a cozy mystery that centers on temptation, family drama, greed, and sweet revenge.

This was a nice little listen from what I normally do. The story is very entertaining and is very easy to follow. The narrator does a spectacular job by reading the book and keeping you entertained. I wasn't disappointed at all and definitely will revisit it at a later date.

Intriguing.
This is not your average cozy, but a story that grabs your attention on several counts and holds it tight until the suspenseful end. The narration by Amanda Fichter is brilliant.

Series is getting better and better
I do think you need to read/listen to this series in order as it gives a chance for you to really get into the backstories of the characters. This carries on from the previous ones, and boy the twist at the end was brilliant - just loved it.
The relationship with the sisters continues to develop but this time the mum and dad take a more centre stage as well. As always Kelly is covered in self doubt and puts herself down but she seems to be getting stronger with each book.
The narration really works well and there is a lot of differentiation between the characters.
I like the way the phrase take the donut was used throughout the story, I never heard it before but it makes sense.

A great story
This is a great series. This is a great story that keeps you engrossed from the prison break at the start to the great twist at the end. Great characters although I do find Kelly's pessimistic nature a little frustrating but this is a minor quibble. I really like Annie Hansen's books and this is the best so far. Reading from the start of the series is recommended. Amanda Fichter gives a super performance. i received a complimentary copy of the audiobook from the author and am leaving a honest voluntary review
