Fantastic storytelling, entertaining characters

It was a pleasant surprise. Did not expect it to be as funny and engaging as it was.

Wonderful story

Loved this audiobook! The story is interesting, with great characters. The narration was very good but the male voices could have been better. I wasn't sure if the narrator was trying for a Scottish accent. Being Scottish and living in Scotland, I don't think they were!

Love the story, painful accent

Struggling a bit with the narration of this, if the narrator could pick one ‘northern’ accent and stick with it, it would be less painful. Am trying to make it to Zale and see how they are done. Nope could not do it

Lovely story, but felt a bit jumbled in parts

The narration was great for me, but the characters sometimes act out of character which really took me out of it.

cute, but repetitive and overly long in the middle and a kind of meh ending

2.5 rounded 3. i like the vibes and the overall tone of the story, and i appreciated how much worldbuilding went into the setting. And while i can appreciate a "there and back again" kind of story, this was more of a "there and back, there again and back and there and back again" situation. which COULD be interesting in theory, but it felt like nothing really changed or escalated up until the climax of the book (when the very silly Third Act Breakup Misunderstanding happened). not helped by how there were some encounters that i had assumed would feed into the climax or go somewhere (a 1-2-3 setup/reminder/payoff), but then they just... never paid off lol.

the relationship is cute enough, for the "old fashioned manly warrior man drinks his respect women juice" trope, but i do feel like the female MC leaned a little TOO much into the "omg lol i love asking silly questions" type of curiosity. i say this as an adult woman with ADHD who also absolutely gets holed into my own little hyperfocuses and overly weird questions, so in theory this SHOULD have been "omg me too". but the way it was written in this book just felt incredibly "how do you do fellow neurodivergents" lmfaaoooo. maybe i wouldn't have minded it so much if the piss jar thing hadnt stretched over like three different scenes? like yes, we get it, your worldbuilding is vast and considered and the MC is the vehicle by which we will agonizingly detail why the love interest physically can't get her pregnant, i love that for her. but WRAP IT UP WITH THE PISS JAR, we get it!!

Nobody does it like T Kingfisher

Nobody writes 'exciting fantasy adventure that's also a wonderful romance with sympathetic grown up characters' like T Kingfisher and I wish to read many more like this. as for the narrator, Sarkis' accent was a bit hard to take at first, but I did get used to it

Awesome narration, good story, a bit too romancy

The narrator is amazing: Sarkis' northern accent is fabulous, and the bird is one of the most hilarious things I've ever heard.
Unfortunately the story was disappointing, or rather the characters. They're both way too insecure for 40 year olds and we're given way too much time with their navel gazing. This is an attempt to increase romantic tension but doesn't work because to readers there's no suspense regarding what the respective other one is feeling, which means that to us the characters just look weepy and contrivedly dense. 15 year olds angst in old bodies that should know better. Bottom line, too much sappy, bodice ripper romance in my adventure novel. I wish the romance didn't overtake the plot so much.
BUT there was no point I wanted to put the book down and not come back. I wanted to know how it ends and I'd listen to the next installment. In fact I hope there is a next installment and we get to see the other swords.

Witty and bingeable

Witty, entertaining and absolutely bingeable! Would certainly recommend it, especially to all female readers - it will bring a smile to your face!
