Summary
Sunset is a bittersweet love story about putting yourself back together after the sky has fallen in.
Ruth and Hannah are sisters. They build each other up and tear each other down. Even as polar opposites they make each other laugh more than anyone else in the world. Ruth is forever single, aimless and wild while Hannah is radiant, organised and hard-working. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with.
But a summer holiday changes everything, and Ruth finds herself entering a long period of self-imposed exile from the world. Searching for anonymity and facelessness, she takes a job at Heathrow airport serving coffee to a slow-motion carousel of travellers, cabin crew and taxi drivers. But when a face she recognises appears in the blur, she is forced to retrace her steps back to a time when her life had hope and meaning.
Sunset is a novel about needing someone else as much they need you: an ode to our most powerful bonds, how they build us and break us and how, when all seems lost, we can find joy in the most unexpected places.

Loved this book and narration
I really, really loved this book and know I'm going to be thinking about it long after finishing it. I generally really struggle to finish books that deal with traumatic events in such an honest way but Sunset never felt like gratuitous torture porn solely designed to make you cry, it was realistic and funny and loving and perfectly paced. The characters were well fleshed out and incredibly vivid.
The narration was also executed beautiful, capturing Ruth's internal struggle without ever veering into overwrought delivery. A lovely voice that captured the humorous parts of this sad story very well.

Make it a movie!
Clearly and we’ll times narration by Bebe Cave. Please make a movie of it! It would be nominated for an award! It’s sad but bits are funny! I love it! It’s perfectly balanced! I love Jessie Cave! This is amazing! Jessie is so talented! And Bebe Cave is exceptional at reading! So crystal and clear with her narration! And cause you know they’re sisters it’s even more relative to listen to!

Even better than an anticipated! And I anticipated A LOT!
This book was fantastic. The story line was heartbreakingly fantastic. Bebe Cave reading her sisters novel, with the perfect tone and insight was fantastic.
I loved Ruth, I thought she was hilarious, even through the worst grief imaginable, some of her thought processes and reactions made me laugh out loud. I loved Hannah too, the caring older sister, completely full of love, who could use her sharp tongue only around her sister - I also found her hilarious!
Something I loved about this story was how real the characters felt. The sister dynamics were real sister dynamics with the added quirks of sibling silliness that you can only share with someone you’ve shared your whole life with.
And although the book is undeniably heart wrenching, really really heart wrenching, it is also, real sibling magic and for that reason, funny and different and refreshing.
Despite listening to the audio book, I’m going straight out to buy the physical book as well. Although I’m fairly sure I’ll only be able to read it in Bebe Cave’s voice. Which is of course, the only way it should be read.

A powerful book about the love of siblings
I listened to the entire book with a lump in my throat! Jessie has completely captured the beautiful & unique relationship shared by siblings. I’m so glad Bebe read it, she captured the characters perfectly and I was completely engrossed in their world. Just as Bebe suggests at the end, this book will stay with me long after finishing.

A good book spoilt ☹️
Guess I’m out of touch/over the hill/prudish by modern standards but the constant stream of sexual references drove me half insane. Such a shame cos otherwise it was great.

Perfect and painful in the best way
An achingly beautiful account of the wonderful messiness, heartbreak and joy that is sisterhood. This is a story I think I’ll keep with me forever.

This book felt so real
I felt like I was grieving too for the week that I listened to this book. It was very intense and Bebe’s reading left a lot of the emotions down to the reader which was very clever. Another example of Jessie and Bebe producing a masterpiece when working together. Thank you both for a great read (listen)

Really enjoyed this
Surprised by this book, I don’t know why, but I was. The character of Ruth I liked, the relationship between the sisters, the character of Rowan and the Ruth / Rowan relationship was refreshing in it’s messiness, honesty and interaction.
The portrayal of grief was so accurate - in the way that it at least covers the ‘after life’ of those left behind, and how it shapes your interaction with life and others immediately and for the rest of your life (with varying degrees) really enjoyed getting in my car from/to work to be able to listen to this.
Thank you for writing it.
