About this listen

Many people blame sugar cravings on lack of willpower rather than accept that sugar is highly addictive—even more so than cocaine, nicotine, and alcohol. The problem isn't just dessert, but the fact that sugar is everywhere. Approximately 80% of products in supermarkets contain sugar, so it's unsurprising that many people struggle to eliminate it from their diets. In Sugarless, Dr. Nicole Avena—a pioneering neuroscientist on food addiction—spells out the substance's detrimental effects on the brain and body. She empowers listeners with an easy seven-step program to help them find the hidden sugars in their foods, control their sweet tooth, and break the vicious diet cycle for good. Sugarless also includes thirty sugar-free recipes.

Critic reviews

"Too much sugar is not a good thing. In Sugarless, Dr. Nicole Avena clearly shows how it can lead to illness, obesity, and even compromise your mental health. If you read this book, you'll make better choices and feel better too. And who isn't up for that?"—Katie Couric, award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author

Great book (specially if you live in the USA)

Lots of great information but hard to realize to many examples and stories when you live outside the USA where diets, while not perfect, are significantly lower in sugars.

Boring. Nothing new

Thought because this book was published Dec ‘23 there would be some interesting new science available, Not so in this book. A rehash of ‘sugar spikes your blood glucose so make better food choices & manage stress’. Reads more like a self help book to introduce (very obvious) ways of being aware of sugar in daily life, rather than any real science. Which is what I thought I was getting from a PhD author. Boring. Want my money back
