About this listen
Garrett Goodlove hates liars. As a lawyer, he’s forced to deal with more than his fair share of cheats and con artists, but lately, he’s been getting fed up.
Goodlove suspects that his latest client, a jolly babushka by the name of Aksana Ivanova, is a grandmaster of deception. His law partner disagrees. But how can they be sure?
Soon after they get her weapons-possession charge dismissed on a technicality, the Redwood Point DA arrests her on a charge of first-degree murder. Apparently, the weapon found in the trunk of her car was used in an assassination.
Perhaps Ms. Ivanova isn’t who everyone thinks she is.
If Goodlove can’t figure out when she’s lying and when she’s telling the truth, he won’t be able to defend her.
Worse, he comes to fear that keeping her out of jail might not be such a good idea.

What More Could You Ask For? Brilliant!
When you read a legal thriller that’s what you want, a thriller, about the law. Al Macy delivers all that and more with this excellent book. The story begins and rolls and rolls and rolls with Garrett Goodlove left twisting and turning as he tries to get to the bottom of his clients true motives. Can the kindly ‘grandmother type’ sitting in his office really be a world class liar? Is it really possible that this seemingly frail old lady holds dark secrets? Well, I’ll not answer those questions in a review as that would spoil the story for those who plan to read it. What I will say is this, Al Macy has created a wonderfully complex and entertaining character in Goodlove that has me wanting more before I’ve even finished. This is what all legal thriller writing should be: taught, twisting and ‘un-put-down-able’! Absolutely first class work from a writer that flew onto my favourites list.
The reading of this book by Nick Sullivan is as good as it gets. I’d even go so far as to say it’s perfect, I really enjoyed it that much. Each character comes to life in his hands (or should that be voice?) and the story takes on a life of its own. His warm tones make listening a true pleasure. Adding Nick Sullivan's narration to this book is a master stroke that raises the great book even higher, recommended.
