About this listen

14 classic Dean Koontz short stories. One chilling collection.

In "Strange Highways," a floundering alcoholic gets a mysterious second chance to relive the night his life began its downward spiral 20 years ago. But on this dark journey, he’ll be supremely tested by conflict with his successful, charismatic older brother, his loss of faith, and the clash between good and the ultimate evil.

Sink into this binge-worthy collection of beloved Koontz short stories, featuring denizens of hell, vengeful children, and eerily human-like robots that will send shivers down your spine.

Very poor sound quality.

I read this collection of stories years ago and I’ve already bought and listened to the audible version of ‘Strange Highways’, which is the best of this collection. The other stories are a bit of a mixed bag; some are engaging and some I just wanted to fast forward but I didn’t. Likewise, some of the narrators were ok and some were barely tolerable, although the poor sound quality didn’t help. I won’t be listening to this collection again. Maybe I’ve just moved on and my taste has changed.

Good Value

I read a few of these titles way back when I first became a fan of Dean Koontz (and his aliases). I’ve found it interesting to look back and see how much he has developed over the years. In some of the stories I could easily spot the style we’ve all come to know and love. Not so much in others, which I found to be rushed and immature.

As far as production is concerned, it would be beneficial if it was made clear where each story started and ended. Audible have the chapters listed 1 to 98, making it impossible. However when listening, each story starts with chapter 1. This makes it impossible to ask Alexa to play from a certain location. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS REGULARLY WITH AUDIBLE and needs addressing.

To try and help other listeners, I’ve listed below the chapter number where each story starts.

1 - Strange Highways
19 - The Black Pumpkin
23 - Miss Attila the Hun
39 - Down in the Darkness
43 - Ollie’s Hands
44 - Snatcher
45 - Trapped
62 - Bruno
67 - We Three
75 - Hard Shell
81 - Kittens
82 - The Night of the Storm
83 - Twilight of the Dawn
84 - Chase
