Summary
Longlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction 2023
This audio edition is read by the author, Natalie Haynes.
In Stone Blind, the instant Sunday Times bestseller, Natalie Haynes brings the infamous Medusa to life as you have never seen her before.
‘So to mortal men, we are monsters. Because of our flight, our strength. They fear us, so they call us monsters’
Medusa is the sole mortal in a family of gods. Growing up with her Gorgon sisters, she begins to realize that she is the only one who experiences change, the only one who can be hurt.
When Poseidon commits an unforgiveable act against Medusa in the temple of Athene, the goddess takes her revenge where she can: on his victim. Medusa is changed forever – writhing snakes for hair and her gaze now turns any living creature to stone. She can look at nothing without destroying it.
Desperate to protect her beloved sisters, Medusa condemns herself to a life of shadows. Until Perseus embarks upon a quest to fetch the head of a Gorgon . . .

Fantastic!
You won't regret listening to this fabulous book. I particularly enjoy the author's narration, as all the wit and simplicity of her brilliant text comes across so well. I am a total devotee of this author and her audiobook performances.

Absolutely marvevelous!
Petulant Gods. Injustice. Sorrow and loss. What's not to like? Natalie Haynes is a wonderful writer and I can't imagine any other voice could bring it alive in the way she does. Just brilliant!

Good.
This was a solid Medusa telling. It felt solid . It was told solidly with solid anger and sympathy.
I think why I don’t quite adore it as I usually do these is not Natalie Haynes’ excellent writing but rather just as everything else about the book is as solid as stone i felt her narration maybe brought her presence into solidity. Rather than having the book read so it came alive in my mind and the narration be inspiring of incidental- Haynes’ presence felt very clear to me through out.
While this might have impaired my flight of fancy with this book I think it’s a compliment to a person that their presence is so felt. It also feels somewhat relevant to the book topic. Maybe I should upgrade my rating to 5 stars ?

Interesting take on Medusa
I really enjoyed this more sympathetic version of Medusa but I’m afraid I’m not a fan of authors reading their works. Authors are authors, actors are actors.
