Summary
Love doesn’t break us; it makes us whole, my nana used to say.
However, one minute, my world is set on fire, literally. The next, I am raising a six-year-old as a single mom without a clear path ahead of us. No place to live. No job. No money.
I’m returning to Sterling Falls to claim what’s mine, then there will be no looking back on this beloved small town, a place I consider a handful of sand in the hourglass of my life.
Then again, Clay Sylver has shaken up that ancient time clock. The silver fox in his forties is a bit cocky, but solid in every way that matters. He loves his siblings. He works hard. He owns an honest business. Honest, the emphasis here. He also suffers from damsel-in-distress syndrome with a savior complex for lost causes, like stray animals and down-and-out women.
And I have a secret crush on him.
When I see Clay stranded on the side of the road one dark, stormy night, I stop to offer assistance. Burning with fever, Clay is sick, and my mom-instincts kick in to give him comfort. That decision throws me off course again. While my past lurks everywhere, I find myself falling in love with Sterling Falls once more and falling harder for the man giving my son and me a safe haven.
Love is a risk, according to Clay, but he’s slowly rescuing my heart while I’m saving his.

Oh Clay!
Back to Sterling Falls I go, and I loved this visit! There is nothing better than there Sylver men and I have been waiting for Clay's story. He is the brother who took over the family store after his father ran it into the ground. No time for relationships, he is married to his job. Mavis is back in Sterling Falls, trying to tie up some loose ends and leave. She stumbles across Clay, delusional, feverish and so sick he needs help getting home. And from there our story begins! This is such a good story! Crushes from another lifetime, unfortunate choices in life, running from the past, taking care of loved ones and loving them for who they are are just a few of the things I love about it! Mavis is a broken woman, but she is strong, and when it comes to her son Dutton, she is a mama bear! Clay loves with his whole heart and knows what he wants. Not only is this couple fun to root for, but the chance to get to hang out with the other brothers is great reason to come back home to Sterling Falls. It's a fantastic listen and has me wanting to visit again!
Narrated by Willa James and Oliver Highpoint, I was treated to hours of fabulous voices. These two work so well together at creating the atmosphere and the characters, it made it feel like I was there with them! James is Mavis, a little self conscious, very protective and a need to be loved, her voice is spot on! Highpoint is Clay, bringing out all the Sylver traits that make it impossible not to love him. This is a fantastic performance and a pleasure to listen hear.

Beautiful Story!
This is the fourth book in the Sterling Falls Series. Clay and Mavis's story is emotional, passionate, and engaging, filled with mystery, suspense, and twists and turns. Clay is handsome, caring, supportive, and protective. Mavis is beautiful, kind, smart, strong, and caring. Her son, Dutton, is adorable. I liked the family bonds in the story. The supporting characters are great. This is a beautiful story. Willa James and Oliver Highpoint did a great job bringing this story to life. I enjoyed it.

Love this return to Sterling Falls
L.B. Dunbar has once again delivered a shining example of a mature romance with characters that you care about, love that feels genuine, and a family that you want to adopt as your own.
Clay and Mavis were such a great couple, with a genuine connection from start to finish. Yes, they had history, but when Mavis opened up to Clay, it was obvious that they were meant to be. Add Dutton, Mavis' child, to the mix, and you had a family that was so caring, so loving and so accepting that it was immediately clear that they were meant to have forever.
The audio, narrated by Willa James and Oliver Highpoint, was a real treat to listen to. The way these two narrators brought L.B. Dunbar's writing to life was a great way to experience this story. I'm looking forward to more in this series.

Stand alone in series
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Willa Jaymes and Oliver Highpoint. They both did an excellent job with the narration.
Sterling Clay can be listened to and enjoyed as a stand alone, but there are character appearances from the earlier books in the series so I think it just adds to the experience if you're familiar with the other stories. The relationship moved a bit fast, but overall I liked listening to the story and the hint of suspense.
I received a copy of the audiobook at my request, and the opinions here are my own.
