About this listen

A second chance to build the family of their dreams...

Dr. Grant Anderson long ago gave up on a relationship with Leo Garner. After all, Leo left him for a movie star, and who can compete with that? But now, Leo’s back with his adorable, genius daughter in tow, leaving Grant consumed by three important questions:

1) Did Leo come home without the movie star because he’s looking for a fresh start?

2) Does he want a do-over with Grant, too?

3) Why else would Leo be hanging around Grant’s hospital so much, anyway?

The attraction between Grant and Leo is undeniable, and soon, their affection reignites, as well. But will their luck hold out through health scares and family drama so they can find their happy ending at last?

This book is a single dad, opposites attract, second chance, hurt/comfort, medical romance by Smoky Mountain Dreams author Leta Blake, featuring over 60,000 words of an emotional, moving m/m romance with a happy ending you’ll love!

Stay Lucky

An emotional story with well developed characters and an interesting storyline.
It’s full of angst, bravery, fear, love and friendship, Leta did an excellent job with a very difficult subject.
The way it kept flashing back was a little annoying and confusing for me but that is just my opinion, also I really disliked the cutesy front cover but that’s only minor niggles.
Darcy Stark did a fantastic job narrating as always.

Stay Lucky

I enjoyed the story though it's not on my relisten list. It started slow for me, and I had a hard time finding a groove with the story. The back and forth was necessary, but it didn't land fully for me. It's a good book but wasn't hitting with me at this particular time. The narration was off for me too. I think a big part was a few words. One, it's annoying to me, but I can overlook it usually. Though when you're in a particular region, I’d check the way they say some things. I will say North Carolinian was way off, and it probably bothered me more than it should. It was hard to get into the story after that. Overall, it's a good listen, but I had a hard time with a few things I'll fully admit are personal more than anything. It

Lovely

Grant reminded me of Will from 'wake up married' and I loved him because of it. Plus it's totally in his POV so the full impact of everything is filtered through him.
The jumping between the present and the development of their relationship works really well here. And I needed tissues a couple of times.

Initial I was concerned that the narrator didn't differentiate enough between the MCs but as he got into the swing of things it became much easier to tell who was speaking.

Lucky in Love

Stay Lucky is both a contemporary, second-chance romance between ex-boyfriends, and a medical drama. Leo left Grant years ago to dash off to L.A. with his new movie star boyfriend. Now, Leo is back with his adopted daughter and he is in a dire state – he needs a kidney transplant. This sets up the story for tense roller-coaster of emotions as Leo and Grant rekindle their prior romance and navigate the rough waters of Leo’s health issues. I don’t work in the medical field so I have no idea if any of the medical procedures were accurate or not, but they felt real. Especially the emotional turmoil Grant goes through as he watches his boyfriend’s pain. Fear not! This book does have a happy ending for both Grant and Leo. Despite the drama and angst, there was humor, snark, and some super steamy moments.

The audiobook was narrated by Darcy Stark who did a great job. Darcy voiced Grant so perfectly – he got his gruffness and snark down pat. The audiobook production was well done and I enjoyed listening to this book.

Heartbreaking

I liked this story but it was a bit sad and happy at the same time.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues and characters that’s well written with their quirky personalities
Sparkling chemistry between the main characters and I adore little Lucky

Narrator:
Clear pronunciation and read with feelings

Leo and Grant...

The story is a very heartfelt romance with a little kid included. Leo is sick, and has come back home to his parents so they can help out with Lucky. Lucky is a beautiful 5 yr old going on 60. Grant was left behind when Leo preferred his actor ex to him. Now he is back in need of a kidney transplant and Grant can’t keep his distance. I enjoyed the banter, the meddling bff and a cute confession from Leo. They were so hot together and good for each other. The narration was a good one with some glitches.

Beautiful second chances romance

Grant is a surgeon and he dated Leo in the past.
He was well on his way to developing serious feelings for Leo but he ran off with his high school sweetheart who popped up out of the blue, leaving Grant in the lurch.
Now Leo is back in town having split up with his now ex, towing a very precocious daughter along with him and dealing with some very serious health issues.
Initially, Grant wants nothing to do with Leo.
He's still reeling from the sting of Leo's rejection and he's terrified of emo emotions.
Leo is very sweet and horribly regretful over his actions towards Grant.
Lucky is a very smart and sarcastic little girl.
I loved the honesty with which these characters were portrayed.
Grant was absolutely unapologetically blunt and Leo softened his rough edges.

Second Chance Romance

I enjoy Leta Blake books, and this one was definitely good. Interestingly, she chose to have only one point of view character – Grant. Grant the Grump. Oh my god, talk about attitude. He’s one of the top surgeons in his hospital, and even though he can’t save everyone, he has the hubris necessary to make the tough decisions. He’s also been known to make employees cry.

Then there’s Leo. Easy-going Leo. He and Grant had dated for a hot minute before Leo’s ex showed up in town and wooed him away. Leo’s ex is a big Hollywood actor, but their relationship has fallen apart. Leo has come home because he needs the love and support of his family. He’s really sick and has his little girl to care for. I loved that Leo’s family took his return and illness in stride. It broke my heart that he might not survive. He’s already been through so much and now this set-back.

Lucky is precocious and smart. She’s Leo’s daughter and he adores her. Would do anything for her. Then she meets Grant and his resentment toward Leo begins to fade away. Lucky wheedles her way into Grant’s life and he becomes invested in Leo’s health because he wants to be part of this family – something he’d never expected to want. Old antipathies fall to the wayside as the men connect. Now I will say there’s a BDSM element that was just discordant. I didn’t feel like it fit the story and was just thrown in. That’s a minor complaint, though, and it’s certainly BDSM Light.

Like I said, I enjoyed the book. I became invested in Leo recovering and getting healthy. I wanted the three to make a family of their own. I wanted – and got – a happy ending. Finally, I’ll mention Darcy Stark. I think his performances are steady and he did a good job with this one. Overall enjoyable.

So sweet

I’ve never heard Darcy stark before I don’t think, and I really liked this narration so I’ll be checking out other stuff by him.
Let’s Blake is another favourite author and I’m looking forward to even more by her.
