About this listen
Three a.m. on a frozen winter’s night, only hours after the results of the general election. A small craft skims the Thames, closing in on London’s most exclusive new riverside hotel. Onboard is a lone assassin, his target - Britain’s most powerful new politician.
In a nation threatened by extremist jihadis and torn apart by civil unrest, Vernon Rolt has just been catapulted into government on an extreme antiterror platform. Rolt’s plans for a zero-tolerance crackdown on ethnic violence has touched a popular nerve. But his move into politics has made him some unlikely enemies - British ex-servicemen, once his most committed supporters who now want him dead.
Ex-SAS trooper turned MI5 operative Tom Buckingham is undercover inside Rolt’s organisation. His mission: to neutralise the rogue assassins for whom he also has become a target and to discover the deadly intentions of Rolt’s new financier, shadowy Crimean oligarch Oleg Umarov. But all too soon, Tom gets caught up in a far more devastating plot which will change the political landscape of Europe - forever....

All action adventure
Would you consider the audio edition of State of Emergency to be better than the print version?
I love all audio books - I listen in the car and journeys all fly by when I am listening.
What did you like best about this story?
I like the way that a story unwinds and leads towards the possibility of civil war in a believable way.
Which character – as performed by Colin Buchanan – was your favourite?
Tom Buckingham. Serious, intelligent and well hard !
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The end of the book when everything settled down to 'normality' - hugely well written and, in my view, one of McNab's better books.

Narration to fast
Overall book was good but the narration was way to fast for me he rattled his way through it in double quick time
Hard to keep up with the story due to speed read

A political thriller
Any additional comments?
This book was not what I had expected from my favourite author. It took a long time to get going, but the action did finally arrive after 4 hours of setting the political scene which was there to support the story.
This wasn't a typical Mcnab book that's full of action and tough, gritty ex SAS soldiers. The majority of it is very political; set just after the general election, which follows one man in particular, Vernon Rolt, the new Home Secretary.
An ok story, but not up to Andy's usual standard. I think most Mcnab fans will be disappointed with this, but mainly for the simple fact that it was not...
NICK STONE

amazing, gripping, tense
Brilliant way to round off the Tom Buckingham series. Possibly enjoyed it more than the Nick Stone books. Hopefully Andy Mcnab carries on with Tom

Not up to not to Andy McNabb is normal standards but okay
Had the feeling somebody else is writing this all the other Andy McNabb's got a lot better into detail it is a lot like the Tom wood or Stephen leather stories just not quite as good a little bit in between, suggest and it goes back to writing about his SAS days

A cracking adventure yarn
It's exactly what you'd expect from an Andy McNab book, a fast moving plot and that degree of credibility his former life gives to has books.

Andy McNabb fans don't bother.
Riveting gripping thriller this is not. Boring uneventful rubbish, couldn't finish this book. Has it been labelled wrong? This in no McNabb book surely.
