Summary
Troy Brennan:
Every Southie in Boston knows that name. The son of a dead mobster. The heartthrob with steel-blue eyes. "The Fixer" who can make or break you in this city. Oh, and my new husband.
Sparrow Raynes:
That's me. No one seemed to remember my name up until he barged into my life. But then he caged me. Kidnapped me. And killed every chance I had to run away from the place where we grew up. Put simply, Troy Brennan clipped my wings. I have dreams, big ones, but I doubt he'll ever let me chase them. I have no idea why he decided to take me as his wife. But I do know this: pissing off this man will not do me any good. At all.
Sparrow is a standalone, full-length novel. It contains graphic violence and adult situations some may find offensive.

A Great Listen
This is a great story.
My only problem is I wish there was a female narrator as well as I think that would've of added to this audiobook.

A favourite story, by one of my favourite authors
I have read this book several times and took the opportunity this time to listen to the book on audible. I thought it was a great adaption in audio, and Michael Pauley completely captured the spirit of this story for me.
I love the way LJ Shen writes. Her characters are sparky and witty and this gives her plots alot of energy. Additionally her characters have blurry lines with their motivations, honesty, their emotions and this all made for a very entertaining listen in my view. I want to also add that this book had a particular part in it that was just filled with energy and emotions and I found so powerful and where the balance of the relationship was completely teetering on edge. It was just superb.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes contemporary/ mafia/ bad boy romances. I hope readers enjoy the tale of Sparrow and Troy as much as I did.

Frustrating but good.
The narration is awful.
One narrator with a terrible Chicago accent, doing the voices for male and female characters. At times (most of the time), it's impossible to differentiate between Troy and Sparrow. I had to keep skipping back to listen to conversations again just to figure out who said what!
However, LJ Shen, once again, did not disappoint. Sending me on an emotional rollercoaster throughout.
I would recommend reading this book rather than listening to it, unless they happen to re-record it.

great story
I loved the story and the male voice, but it need a woman to narrate the female, I couldn't tell if it was male or female they were literally the same.

I'm gonna miss...
...the characters in this book and the superb narration by Mr. Michael Pauley. Oh, I'm gonna miss your voice! I would certainly listen to a follow on story, should the author feel inspired to let these people live a little longer...L.J. Shen landed in my world during a sci-fi binge. I never read books like this! But, now I do...

Sparrow, a rare and special bird.
A well narrated tale of betrayal and intrigue. The narrator captured the 2 POV's really well, switching between Troy and Sparrow voices in such a way that I was completely drawn into the story. I believed the progress from fearvand indifference, to live.

Sparrow …
A mix bag of feelings when it comes to me listening to “Sparrow” by L. J Shen
The story was actually better than most of the reviews… as most was only concerned about the southie accent. Me… however loved it. As much as love the Irish accent. The story was good,
predictable however still good none the less.
It would’ve been better if dual narration but still the narration wasn’t half as bad because the actual story was good.

Bet expectations
Initially I didn't click with the start of Sparrow because it reminded me very much of another one of Shen's books but as the story went on, I really started to enjoy it.
Sparrow and Troy have an amazing enemies to lovers trope with the added mix of forced proximity, age gap and arranged marriage with a whole lot of mafia. The back and forth between these two is hilarious and I wasn't a huge fan of Sparrow's until her personality started coming out and then I fell in love with her. She doesn't let Troy get away with anything and really makes him work for it. Troy has no idea what's hit him with Sparrow and as much as he thinks he can handle her, he's so wrong that it's laughable.
I really didn't see the twist that happened and I definitely had my eyes on the wrong characters in the book when it came to the "bad guys". I enjoyed the world that LJ Shen created and I need to get myself a Troy.
