boggart
noun
A mischievous character from English folklore, boggarts attach themselves to a person or location. Though they can occasionally be considered merely impish or even helpful, boggarts are more often characterised as malevolent and hostile.
Sour Hall’s resident boggart is destructive and torments George and Ash by exacerbating the sources of their pain, drawing out past traumas and current fears.
It's been such a thrill to adapt and expand upon Naomi Booth's beautiful and atmospheric short story. The horror of Sour Hall is intrinsically rooted in the psychology of unresolved trauma, and the ways in which that trauma manifests and challenges us to face it. I wanted to approach this story from a distinctly femgaze perspective and to focus on the characters' emotions and relationships, how the horror element manipulates and threatens these, and to highlight the healing power of love and of empathy, both for ourselves and for others.
Directing Sour Hall on location on an actual farm in Yorkshire was such a unique and wonderful experience for myself and our incredible cast and crew, and that, paired with the amazing 360/binaural sound technology we used, has resulted in something that will hopefully feel really immersive, chilling, and moving for listeners.

Great story odd additions
The story, and performance, is excellent however there's a strange amount of references to sex seemingly needlessly rammed in to this just feels like a waste of time unless of course this will later become relevant

Gripping!
Started listening and couldn't stop! It's a gripping creepy tale that really gave me the chills. Love that it's set in Yorkshire too (Being Yorkshire based). Really impressive how the effects of unresolved trauma were played out through horror and hauntings, very cleverly done. Also really appreciated the theme of difference, diversity, identity and belonging throughout. Yay representation! Excellent acting. Love it! 10/10.

Compelling and Well Produced. More to come??
An immersive experience I had to listen to until finished in one session. Unusual story line combined with great acting and convincing sound effects had me looking over my shoulder at times.

Would recommend
Enjoyed; different to my usual choice. Great to have a lesbian interacial couple as the main characters

Absolutely brilliant and immediate folk horror
This was captivating and beguiling, really using the audio format to its fullest potential.
Great folk horror that is comfortable being its own thing. Brilliant representation too, which is utterly natural and a vital seed from which the insidious horror grows — but nevertheless instantly relatable and terrifying, no matter who you are.

Really wanted to enjoy this.
But sadly my enthusiasm ran out after the continued warnings about content and how frightening it was.
It wasn't frightening or mildly scary, nor overly adult.
It was tediously over produced, the surround sound didn't really do anything to me other than confuse and cause too much sensory imput, making the spoken dialogue muffled and hard to hear clearly.
I really wanted to like this as it seems like a great idea for an audio play, but the ending let it down as completely unbelievable and unrealistic.
My stars are for the voice actors, who despite the weak story line did very well in with the material, but it was as far as being scary? Only if you are 14 I suppose. Sorry audible.

Not bad but needs some work
Good performance by the 2 main characters, and some pretty decent sound effects and samples. My only issue was really where the story was going. I’m not giving too much away but there could have been so much more to the story. I was left a little disappointed. I hope this isnt the last we’ll hear of this Sour Hall.
