Summary

This is the third adventure in The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, following the fantastic success of Wolf Brother and Spirit Walker.

Torak has survived the summer and his heart-stopping adventure in the Seal Islands. He and Wolf are together again. But their reunion is all too short-lived. As mid winter approaches, Torak learns the worst from the White Fox clan. The Soul-Eaters have snatched Wolf and will sacrifice him. Desperate to rescue him, Torak hatches a perilous plan, one that he must carry out alone. He will find the Soul-Eaters and infiltrate their cult.

Critic reviews

"Paver is a master storyteller, whose clear, taut prose overlies complex research. There is magic, but it is natural magic, depending on perception or superstition.... The thrill of this remarkable series is that it makes readers percieve the world differently." ( The Times)

A tale of friendship for young and old!

This is the second time I have read this series it is a beautifully told story about friendship, between a boy and a wolf as well as unlocking to power within and suppressing evil! The perfect bedtime story for 7years plus 💕

Soul eater

In this, the third book in the series, Torak and Ren must rescue wolf after he is taken by the soul eaters. To do so, Torak must literally place himself in the lion's den. This book is darker than the previous two and the most intense.

spine tingling

this book we see the soul eaters take wolf, I was on the edge of my seat. you learn so much about fa and I love that each book is set I a new landscape dreamt up by Michelle Paver. The amount of detail you feel like you standing there with torak and Renn and you forget the book is written for children one of my favourite books series.

Torak's story continues

4/5

This third installment of The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness lives up to its title as the journey of Total takes a darker turn. The arctic setting was beautiful described and made me feel like I was there in that world of endless white. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of the ice (polar) bear.

Torak had grown and begun delving into spirit walking. The way Paver weaves these experiences is wonderful and the continuing idea of different souls works amazingly with this. Renn too has changed and grows into her own and I'm definitely looking forward to reading how she develops her magecraft.
