About this listen
Songs in the Night is a heartfelt story of a family’s struggle to survive through the early seventies in the backwoods of Oregon. Having become discouraged with what they called “the establishment,” Cat and Sandy return to the land in much the same way their ancestors did. They build a home with no electricity or running water that can only be reached by foot during winter, but they love their little home nestled beneath towering Ponderosa pines and incense cedar. It is there, midst the beauty of creation, beneath a sky so clear they breathe in the scent of life, that they discover the truth about the unrest in their souls. Unable to blame anyone else for their continued unrest, they turn to Creator and discover the truth about Him is much different than what they had been told all their lives. Then tragedy strikes, putting their newfound faith to the test. Is simple faith enough to carry them through the loss of every material thing they own?
Each chapter is followed by a song that was written at a time in the author’s life when she was asking God for answers. The simplicity of the writing coupled with newfound faith is sure to touch even the hardest of hearts.

Lovely book
As someone who's very spiritual, this story of a family's spiritual awakening in the Oregon wilderness deeply resonated. Following their hardships and ultimate surrender to trust in something greater was beautifully raw. The intertwined songs added an intimate layer, making me feel I was living their journey. A poignant, uplifting read.

Heartfelt
A very heartfelt tale featuring the author's own story (and narrated by the author) The audiobook covers her struggles to build a home and live in a remote and isolated area. It deals with how she was able to overcome these hardships through faith and with the help of God. The Song's in the Night of the title's name cover song's written by the author - for me, they are less songs and more like poetry. Overall, it is a heart warming tale and revisiting this was no doubt something that was very close to the author's heart.

Deeper into the human spirit
I just finished listening "Songs in the Night," and let me tell you, it was a journey that took me deep into the heart of Oregon’s wilderness and even deeper into the human spirit. Cat and Sandy's story of ditching modern conveniences to reconnect with nature and, ultimately, their faith touched a chord deep within me.
Listening "Songs in the Night" was like watching a poignant melody being played out in words. If you're looking for a story that celebrates the strength of faith, the beauty of nature, and the resilience of the human soul, this book will not disappoint. It's a reminder that sometimes, losing everything material can open the path to the most significant spiritual gains.

Ponderosa pines
I love this book it is a heartfelt story about Cat and Sandy, a couple who leave everything behind to live in the Oregon wilderness during the 1970s. With no modern conveniences, they build a simple life among the giant Ponderosa pines. Their journey is not just about survival, but also about spiritual growth and finding peace. This book beautifully touches on resilience, simplicity, and the deep connections we can make with our surroundings and beliefs.
