About this listen

Nic Cuaruana is 27, and he has served a prison sentence for killing someone when he was 17. Since his release, he has worked as a hit man-cum-cleaner-upper of various crime problems. An arms dealer called Pat employs Nic to find his missing teenage daughter Emma, and almost before he knows it Nic has fallen big-time into gangland London. Quickly he discovers Emma has been murdered, but as he keeps chipping away as to what happened to her, Nic upsets more and more of the sort of people who really shouldn’t be upset and, even more dangerously, he starts to fall for the nervy charms of Pat’s self-mutilating wife, Clare. Taut, spare, and brilliantly plotted, Something You Are is the first in a series of menacing urban crime novels from a young female writer of exceptional talent.

Gripping story

Excellent story line, very well written, I couldn't stop listening. I recommend this audio book. I can't wait for the next book!

Rather drab

This was a passable listen but there are far better writers and narrators out there. I found this a rather drab listen - it was OK but nothing to quicken the pulse. The hero is one dimensional as are all the protagonists so one feels rather indifferent to the whole thing.
Passably well written from a technical point of view but nothing to get excited about.
The narration was sloppy.
I shan't bother with any sequels.

I felt compelled to review this book after...

...seeing a 2 star review, how ridiculous. I've only read about 400 books on audible so figure I'm probably in a good position to comment.

I think it's excellent. If you're not into crime thrillers, don't read it but David Thorpe is greater narrator and the story's top notch...for me... I enjoyed it.

I may have given it 4 stars instead of 5, if the only other review hadn't been an outrageous 2. If you're going to give it 5, at least have the front to explain why...
