Summary

From the award-winning author of Some Boys comes an unflinching examination of rape culture that delves into a family torn apart by sexual assault.

It's been two years since the night that changed Ashley's life. Two years since she was raped by her brother's teammate. And a year since she sat in a court and watched as he was given a slap on the wrist sentence. But the years have done nothing to stop the pain.

It's been two years of hell for Derek. His family is totally messed up, and he and his sister are barely speaking. He knows he handled it all wrong. Now at college, he has to come to terms with what happened, and the rape culture that he was inadvertently a part of that destroyed his sister's life.

When it all comes to a head at Thanksgiving, Derek and Ashley have to decide if their relationship can be saved - and if their family can ever be whole again.

A really great an touching read

I was unsure about this book at first due to the description as a women I now this happens on a regular basis and it's not something I enjoy reading about but after looking on kindle (as there wasn't a review on here) the reviews were what won me over an I'm really glad I did buy this book I'm glad it doesn't go into detail about what happened to her just the after and the affects ..I also like how it give you the background story leading up to that point and throughout the book I was thinking with the quotes made in this book they should have this book in high schools and collages when there learning sex education.... as I agree the fear and quotes are real an know if I was walking down a street at night on my own and saw a women walking towards me it wouldn't really bother me but if it was a man I would be on edge even when they have passed I'd be constantly checking around me until I felt I was safe and if it was more then one man and there drunk I do panic an think walk quickly and don't look at them then maybe they won't say anything an I no all men aren't like that but it still doesn't stop that fear as there are men out there that are ...I no it could be as simple as them asking for the time but ur on ur own in the dark walking down the street a stranger asking the time you don't know this person's character and that's the fear ......sorry for rambling I could go on and on I just love how this book represented that within the story I've used a different angle so I'm not using spoilers ...hope you enjoy this book as much as me.

Amazing book

This book is an amazing book, it shows what it’s like in the eyes of a victim and their family! For anyone who’s been through what this book is about, it can be relatable and even parts of comfort in knowing that even though the book is fictional you’re not alone and others have went through this too! I would definitely say everyone should read this book. Not only victims but everyone. As it shows how much can be achieved if we all band together on this subject and help everyone who has or is going through these things!

I am speechless

It is the story of a brother and a sister in their relationship both before and after the tragic events.
Also guilt and forgiveness which is sometimes just impossible.
Narrators did so good job so I had a tear in my eyes when I listened to it.
Listen and you won't regret it !!!
