Beautiful, hearth-wrenching.... a must listen!

This is my third book in the Donna DeShayne series and I am wowed. First of all, the core characters are the same through the series but this book does not require previous knowledge of characters to enjoy this. In fact, this book is entirely different from the previous two books.

It essentially starts when Donna's dear friend Gavin receives a package which helps him discover a past and family he did not know he had. From there, Gavin, his wife Carol, Donna and her husband are taken on a deep and meaningful journey into the past.

First off, this book should come with a warning. Part of Gavin's family’s history took place in Europe during World War II. I cried through most of the first third of the book. Bella Fayre is gentle but unapologetically truthful in her descriptions and words. It was both beautiful and harsh to listen to this book. It explored hard choices and sacrifices made such difficult times. It also touched on the fact that not everything is clearly right or wrong. There are so many details i was to point out but I don't want to give anything away. I shall not say more except that this was such a difficult book to listen to but also so beautiful.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
