About this listen
A haunting crime novel of two sisters - one has vanished, the other is behind bars....
Snow Delaney was born a generation and a world away from her sister, Agnes.
Until recently, neither even knew of the other's existence. They came together only for the reading of their father's will - when Snow discovered, to her horror, that she was not the sole beneficiary of his large estate.
Now Snow is in prison and Agnes is missing, disappeared in the eerie red dust that blanketed Sydney from dawn on September 23, 2009.
With no other family left, Snow turns to crime journalist Jack Fawcett, protesting her innocence in a series of defiant letters from prison. Has she been unfairly judged? Or will Jack's own research reveal a story even more shocking than the one Snow wants to tell?

Well narrated disturbing story
Caroline Overington takes on difficult topics in her books and this one is no different. Some harrowing parts that were achingly hard to listen to, but both narrators did a great job.
I was a bit disappointed by the ending - just left hanging with no closure - but I guess life isn't normally all neat and tidy with all questions answered.
I am working through CO's books but I can't do one after the other as they are so hard hitting.
Will return to her in a while - but meanwhile going back to some easy-peasy-crime novels where we find out who-did-it.

Wonderful storytelling combining social history
Brilliantly written, by an author who creates page turning, exciting mysteries interwoven with Socio political narratives in such a flowing and entertaining way, that I have listened to 3 of her books, back to back, devouring each book in one sitting.
Her characters are well rounded and empathetic, even the protagonists are fleshy, with an understanding of their journeys and thought processes...

Tragic story
Found this to be compulsive reading to find out what happened. Snow, main character, is a very cold person writing letters from prison to a journalist, who feels she has been misunderstood and unappreciated for what she sees as an essential service looking after disabled children. Unusual sad story of two totally different sisters reunited upon their father’s death, who had lived their lives very differently with no knowledge of each other. Frustrating ending, but a good read.

Sisters of Mercy
What can I say another outstanding story by Caroline Overington.
The character Sno’s belief in herself was in itself unbelievable!!

Gripping
It’s not tidy but it is a gripping story.
I’ve enjoyed other books by the same author and sought this out for that reason. I really like the style of writing, with events unfolding through the different characters narrating their perspective.
It’s very well performed by the narrators who are convincing in telling the story.
Prepare for something different.

brilliant narration
I think the narration makes or breaks an audiobook and in this case it definitely made it. I can't say how much I would have enjoyed reading it in a hard copy, but I found an narration gripping. I was hooked and listened every spare moment I had.
The story starts with the case of a missing sister who visits Australia but ends up about the dubious life of the sister. she knew nothing about.
