About this listen

The New York Mafia has been around for decades, and the Giuliani’s have ruled their criminal empire with an iron first. But wait. There’s an upstart waiting in the wings, and the Lombardi’s are about to claw their way in, thanks to the decline of the city’s ruling family.

The prize to be had in the upcoming battle is New York Harbor. The warriors? Francesco Giuliani, the bad-boy son and enforcer of the family, and Jessica Lombardi, her family’s lawyer who has learned the business from her father and brother.

New York, already on alert when two crime bosses are murdered, is now flooded with NYPD and FBI, all chasing after the culprits.

When Francesco and Jessica meet, the sparks fly, but will that be enough to stop the two families from tearing apart not just the city, but their love?

The Godfather Version of Romeo & Juliet

The dominant New York Mafia family has an upcoming rival family from the old country set on being number one in the city. A turf war breaks out involving the gangs and corrupt officials. Meanwhile there is a love story developing between a member of each of the two families. I found the narrator a little difficult at first but once I got used to him the heavy accent added to the drama and ambiance.

Book 1

The writing was a bit slow at first and there are a lot of characters to keep up with. Overall, I thought it had a pretty good story line. I just have to get use to the narration.

pretty good mafia style book

The writing was a bit slow at first and there are a lot of characters to keep up with. Overall, I thought it had a pretty good story line but I did have to rewind and relisten to some parts. I think this is the kind of book where a second listen would really help me personally absorb the details better. Very traditional Mafia setting throughout.

The narration was consistent but the accent was a bit heavy and it took some getting used to. I personally am indifferent towards if the narrator has an accent or not, but you dont like accents then you won't like this listen. I am not a fan of whatever the narrator is doing to get the echo/tunnel sound for a character's inner dialogue. It was distracting to me to the point to where I couldn't focus on what the character was "thinking" and distorts the narrator's voice too much. I think the narrator using/having an accent that seemed genuinely Italian was a feature that added a level of authenticity to the mafia nature of the book.

Mafia her I come

It's surprising that I've never thought of reading a Mafia book before, to my amazement I have enjoyed every moment, every word. I think I have found my next niche.
This is a new to me author and I must admit it I'm looking forward to see what else he has to offer.
Excellent job with the characters and plot.
