Summary

"Albert makes a deeper and more sensitive investigation into what love is than most romances." —New York Times Book Review on Conventionally Yours

A meet-cute leads to more than they expected in this military-hero romance from award-winning author Annabeth Albert

Navy chief Calder Euler loves to win big. His latest score? A remote mountain cabin. Checking it out is supposed to be a quick trip, but Calder’s luck abruptly turns when a freak injury and a freakier snowstorm leave him stranded.

Oh, and the cabin isn’t empty. A silver fox caring for two young girls claims that the property is his, but Calder’s paperwork says otherwise.

Felix Sigurd is on a losing streak, and his ex-husband risking the cabin in a reckless bet is only the latest in a series of misfortunes. He’ll tolerate the handsome stranger for a couple nights--even care for his injuries—but that’s it.

Calder doesn’t know a damn thing about kids, but making pancakes for Felix’s girls is a surprising delight. Trapped in the cabin, the four of them slip easily into the rhythms of a family. But when the ice melts, they’ll have to decide if a future together is in the cards.

Carina Adores is home to romantic love stories where LGBTQ+ characters find their happily-ever-afters.

Gamble on love

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Greg Boudreaux and Joel Leslie. I found the narration okay but not as good as I have heard before from both.

The story has Calder a military mc, forced proximity, a small age gap and Felix a single parent figure to his two nieces.

The meet in a clumsy way and are forced to stay together due to bad weather and notice they are very different how they handle things. I liked that Felix after weighing everything against each other found the courage to accept his feelings for Calden and that Calden got introspective to see why he did things the way he did and make changes in his behaviour and career and choose for love and family.

A Great Sequel Perfectly Performed

I was kind of hesitant going into this, but it’s such a fun sequel. The characters are expanded on and made very likeable, and both performers are as excellent as always.

Poor narration

I am really disappointed in this audio. Joel Leslie is in such a hurry you hear him getting winded while reading and he rushes over every emotion and nuance. Both narrators are not always clearly differentiating between quotes and thoughts. And Greg Boudreaux recorded his misreadings on a different date and tried to paste it in the original recording, resulting in several sentences with different ambient sound and volume.
I am not sure whether the performance makes the enjoyment less. The characters are flat and I miss the connection with their inner feelings.
