Summary
Marshal Teddy Daniels has come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane, to find an escaped murderer named Rachel Solando.
As a killer hurricane bears down on the island, the investigation deepens, and the questions mount. How has a barefoot woman escaped from a locked room? Who is leaving them clues in the form of cryptic codes? And what really goes on in Ward C?
The closer Teddy gets to the truth, the more elusive it becomes. And the more he begins to believe that he may never leave Shutter Island. Because someone is trying to drive him insane....

mixed bag
An intriguing story to begin with as the story unfold. A disappointing ending. Felt cheated by it.

Lehane at his best
One of the best books I've ever listened to. Mystery, action, thriller and a dose of psychology.
Lehane makes you feel for the characters, creates picture perfect images in your mind and keeps you hooked right to the end.
Narrator does a fine job.

As good as the film!
Ive already seen the film so knew the plot.
However, if reading it before watching, I would say there are enough twists and turns to keep the reader hooked.
The film is very true to the book

Gripping and so well read
Where does Shutter Island rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
near the very top! this is one of those books that really does have it all, interesting story, very well written and impeccably read. It's set in an insane asylum which piqued my interest immediately (I find books about the mind so intriguing!) and as you would imagine...all is not as it seems. there are some fabulous twists that I certainly didn't see coming. It is terribly sad in places and can be quite unsettling, the ending is so so good!!!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Chuck... or was it? no spoilers, you'll have to listen to find out!
Have you listened to any of Tom Stechschulte’s other performances? How does this one compare?
No I haven't but I fully intend to now.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and no... I didn't want the book to end as it was so good but I was also desperate to get to the truth with Teddy!
Any additional comments?
JUST. GET. IT. You won't be disappointed!

Great book. Narrator tough to follow at times
Great book and was really looking forward to it as I love the film.
the narrator did a pretty good job of giving each character life with different voices, however there were many times where I found it difficult to follow partly due to his accent.

Loved this. I had watched the film first but that didn't spoil this for me. A twisty tale that keeps you hooked. the characters have so much depth. The narration is just perfect. A must listen!

Narrator brings it to life
Good story (albeit slightly predictable towards the end). Excellent narration - breathed life into the various characters, and made dialogues easy to follow. Recommended.

Great story
I loved this audiobook, as I knew I would because I love the film and have see it very many times. This is one where the film actually stays true to the book, I'm happy to say. I listened to this all in one day because I enjoyed it so much.
