About this listen

In a war torn Afghanistan, Junie signs up for a Peace Corps assignment involving recently orphaned children. She wasn't expecting a lavish experience. She knew it would be primitive and dangerous, but it turned out to be way more difficult than she could have imagined.

Captain Tyler Alexander, US Army, Infantry: Mission first and mission ready is his motto, but he realizes it all has a deeper meaning when he meets Junie - a Flower-power Peace Corps volunteer.

What a shock!

Would you listen to Shrapnel's Kiss again? Why?

Yes, will certainly be keeping this book in my audio library. I was shocked to find this story so captivating. Meeting Junie on her journey to Afghanistan with the Peace Corps was at first slow but took off like a shot shortly after she arrives and meets Captain Tyler Alexander. The misconceptions towards each other were quickly dispelled and the respect of the military by the author along the voyage made this an enjoyable read.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the reality of war brought into the story. The unlikelihood of beauty in such an unlikely place is what makes the storyline one of the best I've listened to in a long time.

Have you listened to any of Rita Rush and Michael Icenogle ’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No, I haven't but after this I will definitely be seeking these narrators out.

A short, emotion filled

The story is short but interesting and well narrated. Just the right amount of crisp and neat detail to create the setting, keep the narrative moving quickly forward and cover all the expectations of a military romance. And like a gift, the loose ends are neatly tied together in a pretty bow at the end.
