About this listen
Rod Nelson is used to being someone's good time, and that's fine with him. Spending his days at his adult toy store, Rods-N-Ends, he never knows who he'll meet. The second Landon Harrison walks in, he has Rod's full attention. It seems as if Landon wants him too, so why won't the man jump in the sack with him already?
Landon never thought he'd return home to the town where memories lurk around every corner. He has to admit, Rod makes the adjustment a lot easier. He keeps Landon laughing. Despite the fierce attraction between them, he's not willing to risk his newfound friendship to get laid.
Neither man wants something serious, but the more they're together, the harder it is to keep their hands to themselves, until eventually they stop trying.
But flings between friends are never simple, and as they attempt to shift gears, diving into their first relationship, they're slammed with setbacks. If they want to truly move forward, before they hit the open road together, they're going to have to let go of a past that could make them crash and burn.
Contains mature themes.

If you’ve experienced generational trauma this story will hit hard, and it might help because this story does a good job of showing you different perspectives. I enjoyed this story and the characters were adorable.

Not am absolute must read but still enjoyable
I have recently discovered Riley Hart’s books and I am devouring them one after the other. The author is so talented, the writing strong, great characters and really interesting plots which do not rely on implausible coincidences and devices to get to the end of the book. The MCs draw the reader in and, despite any flaws they may have, I always fall in love with them and look forward to their happily ever after.
I am straight but really enjoy M/M romances. When the chemistry is right it is smoking hot, as in the first book in the series, Crossroads.
Shifting Gears started really well but kind of fizzled out as it progressed and I found the ending rushed, hastily tying up the loose ends in a rather unsatisfactory way. No spoilers, but we were led to believe that London’s trauma concerning his father was deep-seated and believable. The resolution was not. I always want the MCs to find the one and only but, honestly, I could not suspend my disbelief with Riley and Landon. Landon had every right to hold onto his upset, instead, he deflated like a balloon. I could not reconcile this turnaround with the character the author had created.
With all of those caveats, I still appreciated this second book in the series. The characters were nearly there and I think I see what Hart was trying to achieve with them. Sean Crisden’s narration was really well done although, for me, I did not think he got Rod’s voice quite right. His narration in the first book was excellent and I will definitely be downloading more books that he is reading. The characters are so well portrayed and defined and the thought put into the portrayals was evident.
I will be reading the final two books in the series. Riley Hart is a must read author for me. Even if this book did not get my heart racing, I still appreciated the writing and loved seeing Nick and Bryce still madly in love. I particularly enjoy the way Hart takes ordinary men and makes them fall in love extraordinarily. As a side note, I have noticed that some readers have said in the reviews that they are not fans of the hyper romantic turn of phrase , Particularly when the MCx Express their love and feeling for each other. I disagree. If that is what you think then I don’t think you get the books at all. For me, there’s nothing like seeing two men unable to keep their hands off each other and express their feelings. Sigh…

Friends to lovers
Super seggs positive
Rod uses the F-slur frequently when he thinks and talks about his unsupportive and emotionally abusive father.
Landon is foolish for the first half of the book with his needless avoidance of an actual relationship with Rod. But when the love hits it HITS.
The Mothers in this series are the real villains book 1 and book 2 have some of the WORST mothers.

The narration was the best part of this
It was enjoyable enough but a bit boring too. This average MM romance follows 2 guys with daddy issues and how it affected their lives and relationships. Their journey together helps them overcome their pasts and find love.
It is not quite a slow burn but it took over 2hs for some spicy times to happen.
Narration was excellent. Sean Crisden not only had different voices for the various characters, but also for the parts in between dialogue.

Such a heated romance
It started off as a heated fling but it really is romantic. I like the social aspect of not always having a support system. I liked the cameo from your other book Crossroads
