About this listen

A compulsive debut thriller about motherhood, obsession, and how far we’d go to protect the ones we love

Five-year-old Ava Boone vanished without a trace six months ago. No witnesses, no sightings or arrests. But Grace Wright just moved in next door to the only suspect the case had: quiet, middle-aged Leland Ernest.

Recently divorced, Grace uprooted her two small children to start again and hopes the move will reset her crippling insomnia. With whispered neighborhood gossip and increasingly sleepless nights, Grace develops a fierce obsession with Leland and the safety of her children. Could she really be living next door to a child-kidnapper? A murderer?

With reality and dream blurring more each day, Grace desperately pursues the truth - following Ava’s family, demanding answers from the police - and then a body is discovered.

Excellent thriller

Loved the book, the narration was just right and the storyline kept me hooked throughout.

3 times as long as it should have been.

It just goes on and on which would be fine, but there is no payoff. The title doesn’t make sense. The story is unbelievable, unrealistic. You get close to the end and realise everything you’ve listened to has been made redundant and means nothing. The author is talented but put long winded “intelligent wordplay” and crude language in the place of a good well rounded, believable story. Narrator is fine. Child and male voices are off. The child Chloe? 3 years old? Overall I’m disappointed.

Get pat the first two chapters and its great.

well worth a listen. At first I nearly packed it in as the narrative style is quite different but I'm really happy I gave it a chance as I ended up hooked.

Good read

This was an interesting read! Kept you listening but some of the writing was a bit odd. The twist was good and unexpected !

Average

Not sure I have much of an opinion on this one, I listened to it all, on x2 to speed it up. It was gripping enough to keep me wanting to know the ending but I’m unsure if I would recommend it or not. Maybe as
Something to pass the time but not if you’re really looking to get your teeth into a book. Plus the narration of the little girl was teeth grinding, headphone users beware! Average rating, could give or take.

Great story. Funny

Enjoyed this book and often laughed out loud at thoughts and sayings. I found the end a bit blunt though. Still waiting for different closure it feels.

Went on a bit!

It was okay but was a bit boring at the end and repetitive. I will read another of her books though.

All the Right Ingredients

This story delivers what it claims on the tin. Written with ingredients of grit and intrigue and a good helping of plot. It's an included story, so it's a no-brainer. The story takes a very close 1st person look at the thoughts and feelings of the main character who is a single tiger Mum. It describes her personality and unease really well.
