About this listen
The murder of Sarah Payne, Adam the Thames Torso, the London bombings, the Night Stalker and the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko... The solving of all these cases can be linked to one man: Ray Fysh, a Charlton Athletic fan from Woolwich, a natural raconteur and also one of the finest forensic detectives the country has ever seen.
Ray began work for the Met Police in the 1970s when forensic investigation was seen as little more than a geeky side show, only in existence to confirm or eliminate evidence. But by the mid 90s Ray and his team had made huge progress in their field, contributing to the UK becoming a world-leading innovator in forensic techniques, with Ray himself being named as Special Adviser to the Forensic Science Service. As the SA, Ray worked alongside Senior Investigating Officers from day one of a case, directing his team to identify forensic opportunities and harvest case-cracking clues.
As Ray looks back over his career at the cases he worked on, the reader is given unparalleled insight into the highs and lows of an astonishing career, the historic classist snobbery of the Met and the stunning realities of crime and forensics©2022 Ray Fysh (P)2022 Bonnier Books UK

Forensic Scientist
I don't know how anyone could criticise Ray Fysh and Michael Chance.
Both the book and narration had me engrossed.
The history of Forensic Science and it's development over the last decade was fascinating.
The murderers and rapist's would never have been caught if it wasn't for the dedication of Ray and his team.
When I pick a book to listen too I am looking for something that will keep me listening. I rarely return books and I rarely find ones I don't enjoy.
I am so glad I picked this one.

Beware this is quite technical
I enjoyed listening to this book and found myself amazed at how recent FSS is. This memoir charts the rise of many forensic techniques over the years and has solved crimes years old, due to the expansion and continued boundary pushing by Mr Fysh and his colleagues. It’s very technical in places but not that bad if you realise how interesting and integral a part toxicology, isotopes etc play in forensics. A good listen.

Well read and informative
l can't praise this book highly enough. sure, it's worrying that there are such terrible people out there, and pretty devastating to learn that such a dedicated unit is no longer standing between us, but the innovations in forensic science pioneered is amazing. Thoroughly recommended

Great listen....
Besides being an interesting and well-written book, i also enjoyed learning more about DNA and the forensic sciences from a man who teaches because he wants to share knowledge....and does it humorously at times but always understandably...thanks!

Not overly scientific
A very interesting listen. Basically, Ray takes us through a variety of UK cases, of which anyone old enough will have heard of many over the years, and how they used forensics to help find out information about the perpetrators. The lengths they went to are very impressive.
Whilst there are some big chemical and biologic terms thrown about, I didn't think it was overly technical or confusing.
