Assisted dying is legalized after the NHS sell-off. Where does the killing stop?

The sick and old are no longer a societal burden, healthcare costs plummet, and inventive end-of-life options emerge.

Geraldine, Dawn, Jeffrey, and Woody each book their final journey at Go Gently's Charon House clinic. What they find doesn't match the brochure.

As their hour nears, will it be the end for these four, or is there life in them yet?

Shaking hands with Elvis

This is a cracking listen, it is interesting and thought provoking. Black, yes, a very emotive subject. Assisted Dying is legalised and our 4 main characters have opted to die for their own very different reasons. A change of mind and they wish to leave... humorous in parts this is a fascinating listen. Samuel James narration is superb and brings the whole story to life.

Superb black comedy

Paul Carroll breathes fresh life into the controversial issue of assisted dying in this compassionate, irreverent and ultimately life-affirming novel.
Four “guests” sign up for a “final journey” with Go Gently, a slick British version of Dignitas. They arrive, meet and reconsider. The only problem is, at Charon House you can check out - but you can never leave.
Standing in their way in this superb dystopian black comedy are opportunistic Minister for Wellbeing, Lawrence Pestel, and preening American entrepreneur, Callan Clay. Aided by their vying wives, they’re out to make a killing - at any cost.
The villains have the best lines, but all the characters are strongly drawn. From the fateful four, to their confused relatives, plus a hapless protest group and Adil, a put-upon Syrian-born “guest worker”.
I can’t recommend this book enough. The plight of Geraldine, Dawn, Jeffrey and Woody will make you cry. It will make you laugh. It will make you think.
