Summary

In the town of Tall Oak, high school football reigns supreme. Led by star Quarterback Justin Jackson, the players walk the halls of their school like gods, but a sinister side lies behind their "Golden Boy" facade. Despite their best efforts, their atrocities will come to life.

Every year, the star players take a retreat to an isolated cabin in the woods for a week of debauchery. This drug-fueled party is intended to be their final send-off before college.

This time, it will be different.

This time, they've pushed their victims too far.

Trapped in an isolated cabin, they will finally know what it means to be the victim.

An quick, thrilling listen

What would you do to get revenge on behalf of the most important person in your life—and is there such a thing as going too far?

Seven Rabbits is a book that lets the secrets it contains unveil over time, and I don't want to spoil that here, as I feel going in as blind as possible is important. The basic synopsis is that a group of high school football players, essentially royalty in the town of Tall Oak, use their status to indulge their decadence and their own dark desires. This time, however, they've gone too far, and a group of people in town have decided to take matters into their own hands.

A gripping and fast-paced tale, this is a very well-crafted thriller that had me compelled from start to brutal finish. It's certainly not for the faint of heart—there are very vivid, and certainly imaginative, moments of gory violence throughout, as well as sexual assault, and I caught myself wincing more than once. King has done a good job of creating antagonists you'll be rooting against, as well as the vigilantes in rabbit masks who you will want to succeed—and maybe you will end up questioning if they've gone too far. I'd have liked to see more of the lives of the victims, however, who suffer deeply and in some ways feel like a plot device more than people. In some ways, this is unavoidable, as the story is mainly about the revenge itself—by the nature of it, these victims will need to exit the story sooner rather than later—and perhaps it is an unfair complaint on my part.

Personally, I feel like this is a variation on a theme I've experienced numerous times before, throughout books and films. It's certainly not a derivative story, or even too familiar to anything else in particular, but it did mean the twists the story took weren't a surprise to me when they happened. Of course, others may have a very different experience here. The main criticism I have of the book is the way it alternates between multiple character points of view and different timelines without chapter headings. I feel like this would be a small touch that would make for a smoother read. I did get into the rhythm of it, but I felt I was floundering a little to start with.

Overall, I thought this was a compelling thriller and one I ended up speeding through, constantly feeling like I needed to get through one more chapter before putting it down. You may need to check your trigger warnings before reading, but I can see why there is so much hype around its release. Timothy King is a name I will be looking out for in the future.

I listened to the audiobook version of Seven Rabbits, narrated by the author—under the name TC King—and it was well performed. While this was quite a straightforward reading, with little in the way of different voices to distinguish characters, the obvious familiarity King has with the material, character motivations, and feelings makes it a compelling way to experience this story.

A harsh story about revenge!

A brutal and crude insight into the literal meaning of taking justice into one's hands. A well thought out slasher/revenge story that will satisfy lovers of gore and brutal horror with a plot that goes directly to the point.

I listened to the audiobook and although I enjoyed the story, I think I could have gotten more out of it by reading the book. I want to stress that this is a personal opinion, but the narration didn’t do it for me and it hindered my full appreciation of this revenge plot.

Without thinking of the audio experience, I appreciated how the plot was laid out, with the chapters going back and forth in time, revealing the underlying reasons of the events and the motives behind each character bit by bit.

I will definitely read more by this author as I know I would have enjoyed this book more with a different narration or if I’d read it.

Thanks to the author for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.

Bloody, good revenge story!

This book was a great read! Easily a top 10 read for me this year so far. I enjoyed how we got to see both past/present to fully understand what was going on and why events were taking place. It is a revenge story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I found myself cheering for the “good guys” throughout. can’t wait to read more from Timothy King in the future.

brutal but poignant.

Well, first things first, I absolutely loved it!
It was brutal, nasty & some of the scenarios that played out were down right evil. But that didn't take away any of its heart. At it's centre, it's very much a morality piece.
And here lies the true question that is, "Just how far would you go for the ones you love?" That's as far as I'll go into spoiler territory, but know you leave unsure of if what happened within those pages was worth it all. I personally fought over if the ending was happy or morally bankrupt. (In the best possible way.)
This could have been a straight slasher, but Timothy King has given every character life & you will genuinely wonder what will happen next. Characters I thought were safe at least for a while were dispatched without mercy.
I had a great time with this story, it was intriguing, gut wrenching & I can't wait to see what Mr King does next.

f**k jock culture

Seven Rabbits was one of my hardest reads this year.
I cycled through a host of emotions: rage, disbelief, satisfaction, anger, disgust.
At times i wasn't sure I'll be able to finish the book - it hurt me to read (listen to) the words.

The book explores the worst type of toxic masculinity, the jock culture, that sadly exists. The atrocities and society's blindness and acceptance of it will chill you. That also sadly exists.

If you're a parent to daughters, this will hurt.
If you're a decent human being, this will hurt.

A lot.
