About this listen
A woman's body is discovered in Hyde Park. Wearing only one shoe. Close by, Detective Jack MacIntosh finds a black stiletto, diamante buckle glinting in the morning sun. But it doesn't belong to the victim. Two days later, another young woman is found strangled to death in nearby Green Park. Wearing just one shoe - the matching stiletto. Hidden in the long grass beside the body, the police uncover a low-heeled court shoe. Detective Jack and his team are in a race against time to find the owner of the court shoe before it's too late. At the same time, Jack is fighting his own demons. Demons rising up from the past and threatening to cloud his judgement when he needs it most. Jack is hunting a brutal killer, who delights in playing cat-and-mouse games. Who will win this deadly battle of wits?

Excellent Listen
As with book 1 couldn’t put this down - due in part to excellent narrator who’s is so easy to listen to.
Police procedure outlined and followed without all the swearing and blaspheming contained in 1many previous detective books. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Great book unknown author
Thought I’d give it a try and very glad I did. Will be getting the next one now and looking forward to the story with Jack and co progress. Far fetched to some extent but then so is real life!! Narration was perfect and calm to listen too.

Excellent narration
As ever Simon Mattacks narration is outstanding. He is my go to performer and the reason I selected this book.
The story itself was an enjoyable yarn but needs you to suspend your disbelief at times. However my main gripe was the portrayal of female characters. They were either victims (naturally) or simpering at any available male character. Blushing and lip biting at any and all situations, be that at work, meeting a client, serving in a cafe or just life in general.
Oh and the over use of the word indeed….😬
Not sure if I’ll read the next instalment but can never say never. Especially with the narration of Mr Mattacks. 😊 * blushes*

Interesting start to a series
This is the first book in a new series by an author I haven't read before. The story is about a serial killer of young women who leaves the shoe of his previous victim near his most recent kill. DI Jack Macintosh is in charge, and to make matters worse it is seven days before the start of the Olympic Games in London 2013 and the eyes of the world are watching.
The story was interesting, though sometimes a little slow. The story is told in two timeframes, and we learn more about DI Macintosh's past from the flashbacks and he clearly has his own demons! There were some red herrings which kept the story entertaining. I didn't guess whodunnit.
At the beginning of each chapter was a date, time and location. As an audiobook listener I found this irritating, especially when some of the chapters were only a minute long! Perhaps it worked better if you read the book.
The narrator, Simon Mattacks was excellent.
