Summary

Seriously Mum, What's an Alpaca? is the frank and charming story of a brave couple who risk everything to move to Spain to breed alpacas. Their intention is to make a living, but first they must negotiate their way through the Spanish property market, local characters, rogue builders and the worst weather Andalucía has seen for 100 years.

Alan and Lorna experience the joy, but also the heartbreak of alpaca breeding, picking up an assortment of stray animals on the way.

Listened to it in one long wine induced sitting

Where does Seriously Mum, What's an Alpaca? rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

So far for me it was one of the best. Very interesting and entertaining. Thought the narration was really good.

What other book might you compare Seriously Mum, What's an Alpaca? to, and why?

Nothing in audio so far like it. Just some of the other travel memoirs.

Have you listened to any of Nigel Patterson’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No this is the first one.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Losing his baby alpacas. I really felt for him. How on earth do you go on?

Any additional comments?

My husband is blind and listens to alot of audio books. He really enjoyed this one and we both sat and listened to it together in one sitting drinking some nice wine. That is how much we enjoyed it. Can't wait for the next one to come out on audio.

A genuinely good listen

Would you listen to Seriously Mum, What's an Alpaca? again? Why?

I would most certainly listen to "Seriously Mum, What's an Alpaca?" again, because it's the sort of audio-book that reels you in and then keeps you there. It kept me entertained right throughout an interminable journey through France.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Seriously Mum, What's an Alpaca??

When Alan gets covered in alpaca spit, I nearly wet myself laughing!

Which character – as performed by Nigel Patterson – was your favourite?

Without a doubt Alan himself, I felt that by the end of the book, that I already knew Alan and Lorna.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh on multiple occasions,

Any additional comments?

A brilliant recondition of Alan Parks's already excellent memoir. Can't wait to listen to the other 2 books.
