About this listen

Serial killers: They cross the bounds of evil. They murder at random without logic or reason other than the one twisting in their sick and evil minds. They are diabolical, vile creatures devoid of morality or pity. You will meet a chosen few of them in this audiobook. We will see that serial killers are roaming among us all, from small towns to big cities. They are not limited to a particular place, gene pool, culture, social class, or religion. They are not restricted to any particular demographic or political propensity and they can be of any gender.

Some of the serial killers chosen for this first annual Serial Killers True Crime Anthology you might have heard of and we present their tales in new ways. Others have not graced every newspaper, tabloid, or television screen and represent tales of true-crime horror told in detail for the first time in these pages.

Five of true crime's most prolific authors have come together in this audiobook to present their most compelling cases of serial homicide, famous and not so famous.

fantastic

Really enjoyed this book . I really find how dna brings criminals to justice even years later just brilliant . I found the explanation of how the brain works cause and effect interesting . but most of all my thoughts are with all the children and vulnerable victims so very sad

The worst Narrator

To much woffeling in a hard to understand voice which at times struggles to put a sentence together correctly.

Interesting compilation let down by terrible language skills

The book itself was a fun compilation with no individual murderer getting much more than an hour, making it ideal for household chores. Sadly the introduction is severely lacking in academic references which makes a number of the advanced theories interesting, but not much more than the author's opinion.

No, what kills this book is the reader. I should mention here that I am German and Nazi Germany played a significant role in one of the theories advanced. For this the author provides the reader/listener with the German names and words. Sadly what we end up hearing is more of a painful sneeze than a language. I consider myself very well versed in Third Reich history, but I didn't recognise ANY of the words and names, even when I knew what it was suppose to be from the context. It is truly terrible. Towards the end we encounter the same problem with Eastern European terms. Would it have really been too much to ask to get those chapters (I think it is three in total including an American Nazi nut in the middle) read by someone with the appropriate language skills? Or just change things to avoid foreign languages? Sounding like having a bad cold should absolutely not be an option! Especially as it makes it hard to read up on anything mentioned in more detail, which is an unfortunate choice for a book written in a semi academic style.

I would have given one star for performance, but the English parts are actually quite well done.

Annoying voice unfortunately but great story

Very good details etc although the readers voice is rather dull and annoying, I feel this needed at least two readers

Entertaining and educational.

'Soft academic' approach to the subject. explores the history, science AND sensation of serial killers. I found it gripping, it satisfied my morbid fascination and clinical curiosity. Narrator was decent.

Great book, appalling reader.

The reader makes frequent, obvious mistakes but doesn't edit them out. It may only be a small thing but this is a professional item and it really pulls you out of the story. He also reads in a very dull way, not sure why but I find myself getting distracted from the audio book, that is not at all like me.

Boring and terrible narration

What would have made Serial Killers True Crime Anthology 2014 better?

A competent narrator. It was literally painful but laughable to listen to. He sounded uninterested but had no idea of sentence structure and emphasis. Also included many errors and repetitions.

What could the authors have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Get a decent narrator. Also there too much technical info and not enough serial killer examples. I felt like I was back at school.

What didn’t you like about Don Kline’s performance?

Everything. Unbelievable he was chosen.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Serial Killers True Crime Anthology 2014?

A lot of the technical info but maybe I was put off by the boring narration.

Any additional comments?

Had to send this back as too boring.
