Summary

Peter: You know that saying "the bigger they are, the harder they fall"? It can refer to love, too, not just kicking giant jerks in the balls for getting too handsy.

I’ve had crushes, but I’ve only fallen in love once. It was huge and all-consuming. It was also the biggest mistake of my life.

My Mr. Right turned out to be Mr. Mob Boss. I lost everything to my childish fantasies of Prince Charming the day I testified against him and was shuffled off into witness protection, never to see anyone I knew again.

So. Yeah. I don’t "do" love anymore.

And then along comes my new client, Keegan Cunningham. He’s not just Mr. Right, he’s Mr. Perfect as far as I can tell. And I can tell a lot about a person’s flaws. His just...aren’t there.

He’s an alpha without being an asshole. Rich but not a snob. Eccentric without being off-putting, and when he smiles at me...ugh, it’s the worst. Nobody can be this perfect. I thought they could once, and it was just the perfect trap. I’m not falling for it twice, not when I finally have a life worth losing again.

So why the hell can’t I stop falling for him?

Keegan: My appearances are meant to be deceiving. When you’re used to everyone having an agenda, the best defense is a good illusion. Be nothing like they expect. Like you truly are.

It’s a good defense. It’s protected me. Gotten me everything I want in life. Except love.

I have no one to blame for my own loneliness. I’m the architect of my own fortress of lies and misdirection. But then Pete DiAngelis strolls past every defense I have like it’s not even there. My answers to his questions are genuine. My compliments are real. The way my heart sings when he laughs...my god, I’m like a 12-year-old schoolgirl.

But I have responsibilities, as my parents’ heir and as an officer in the Hellion Club. I can’t afford to put one omega before all that.

But when his own secrets put him in very real jeopardy, I can’t afford not to.

How can I have anything else to lose when he is the only real thing in my life?

This tale from the Hellion Club series proves you can’t run from your past forever, but you can find a sizzling-hot alpha to face it alongside you and get that HEA. Along with all the sex you should not be listening to unless you’re 18 and up!

A fitting finale

I have wanted Keegan to have his own story since the second book of this series. It was certainly a surprise because the timing actually places this one before the other books! However, I don't want to spoil for those who haven't read or listened to the Hellion Club books yet.

This book explains a lot about Keegan's character and why he is as he is. I love him more than ever! Peter is the ideal partner for him.

J. Warr narrated the book smoothly and clearly and made it a pleasure to listen to.

absolutely fabulous

I had put off reading secret family due to not liking Keegan throughout most of the other hellion books but after rereading contract family where he really had his brother's back, I gave the audio book a go. it was amazing. I'm upset at that the end wasn't the big reunion (no spoilers) but it was still a happy ending and a great story. will have to go read it now!

as good as the ebook

The story is always 4 or 5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B
