Summary

Librarian Marissa Reynolds has spent years distancing herself from her crime kingpin uncle. When she awakens in an unfamiliar hotel room with blood on her hands and no memory of how she got there, the past returns with a vengeance, and her life spirals into a nightmare.

Straight-laced assistant district attorney Scott Bannister has spent his life seeking justice for the senseless shooting deaths of his parents. When he realizes Marissa is the niece of his prime suspect, he crosses a line, guaranteed to jeopardize both his life and his beloved career.

He'll do anything to destroy her uncle. She fears he's using her to achieve his goal. As the body count mounts, and their lives are threatened, they must put aside their distrust and work together to find the devious killer.

Will they be able to forgive and find true love?

Great exciting thriller

This book grabs you by the horns and does not let go. It’s a rip roaring thriller in a hunt against time for Marissa and Scott to work our who is setting them up and is her notorious crime boss Uncle involved. Along with the hunt is everything too good to be true about Scott and what secrets is he hiding. You will not be disappointed by this book and the fact it is narrated by the amazing Bill Nevitt just adds to the story however my Alexa for some reason will not play any books narrated by Bill which I still haven’t got to the bottom of lol.

Secret Betrayal

I liked this book more then I thought. It starts of quite quickly and we get to know the characters as they go on their journey to find out who set them up.
My only negative is that I did not like the main female character. I felt she was weak and yet her uncle was someone people did not mess with. I found her personality hard to believe especially with her background.
But other then this it is a good book, with a little romance, mystery and suspense. Loved the twist and turns.

New Author to me

Marissa has a secret, her uncle is a crime lord and she has distanced herself for years until one night shes wakes up in a cheap-looking hotel room with no idea how she got there and along comes A.D.A.Scott Bannister after looking round he feels sure he's been set up with a prostitute. When he realizes who the woman is and her connections he decides to use this to his advantage. Things go from bad to worse and then to find out that there is an arrest warrant out for both of them, can they work together? or will they distance themselves from each other? Not heard of the author before but nonetheless a great story great listen and good narrator would certainly recommend.

An interesting listen

I’ve listened to CB Clark books before so I knew what to expect. I enjoy Bill Nevitt’s narration but his female voices often come off as whiny. That aside, he does a good job.

This book is a thriller with some romance thrown in. There were a few times when credulity was stretched, but other than that it was enjoyable. There were a lot of twists and turns which made me keep listening.

I will definitely keep listening to this combo.

I loved it!

I listened to the audiobook version of 'Secret Betrayal' by C.B. Clark and the narrator was the inimitable Bill Nevitt. This was a fantastic combination. I love Bill's narrations as he's just so much fun and puts so much energy into his work. The voices he used for the characters were perfect and just how I would imagine them to be.

The story was very entertaining with lots of twists and turns. I loved the way that the secrets were gradually revealed as the story went on. It was the perfect blend of intrigue and romance and I was sorry when it ended.

There are some far fetched moments in the book but too much realism would be dull. I read/listen to books to escape so I didn't find those a problem.

I shall look out for more books by C. B. Clark.

Engaging listen

Likeable characters, a good story arc, a bit of a love story. Add in a couple of twists and some adrenaline and you have a really enjoyable listen.

Review

This review is based on the audible book format:
I thoroughly enjoyed this book...I love all kinds of detective and 'who dunnit?' stories and this was exactly that... twists and turns and surprises and just enough cheesy romance (the good kind) to make it an enjoyable read. I had my suspicions about some of the characters but was still surprised with a well thought out plot..
I loved the narrator and thought he did a great job with this book.
