About this listen
The rich and famous are converging on the iconic Savoy Hotel in swinging '60s London—including a famous Broadway producer with anger issues, a demanding Indian raja, and a gorgeous film star with certain kinky predilections. All is as it should be—until the murder of a showgirl threatens to scandalize the hotel.
The list of suspects includes Priscilla Tempest, the trouble-prone Canadian head of the Savoy press office. Clearing her name would be easy enough, if only she hadn’t spent the night of the murder with a certain beguiling Canadian prime minister. Blackmailed by a Scotland Yard detective, wooed by a notorious gangster, and hounded by the press, Priscilla must use wit and resourcefulness to survive the treacherous upper echelons of London society and find a killer.

Noel Coward meets the Kray Brothers meet murder!
Imagine Noel Coward, Lawrence Olivier and John Gielgud helping you solve a crime!
This book should be properly read in black and white – it is not only a rousing murder mystery in the old-fashioned style, it’s a loving tribute to a London of the 50s/60s, where movie stars had wit and drank too much and the murderous gangster brothers Kray were as romanticized as they were feared.
Oh yes – and hotels were classy places where you could mix with the rich and famous over a classic cocktail at the bar.
The Savoy hotel is where Priscilla Tempest works in public relations, and she has her hands full when a dancer is found murdered in one of the rooms. (Oh yes – did I mention that Priscilla has an affair with real-like Canadian Prime Minister of the time, Trudeau Sr.?)
Yes – these real-life legends are walking, talking characters in this murder mystery. And when you run into a name or two you don’t recognize, it’s worthwhile googling them – they may also be real historical characters.
You will be on the edge of your movie theater seat as Priscilla navigates the biting wit of her writer/actor fans, the romantic advances of murderers and politicians as she tries to solve a crime before she falls victim to unemployment, murder, a broken heart or all of the above.
Written masterfully and lovingly with plenty of bon-mots and double entendres by Ron Base (of the Sanibel Sunset Detective series) and Prudence Emery, this book is fun from start to end.
Especially if you have a soft spot for the time and the movies – a book (and hopefully a series) you can’t help fall in love with.
