Summary

A Primarchs Novel

"I have always been the master of wretches, and have learned from that. I am a wretch myself, a non-standard. To purify and to transform – that has been our gift."

Sanguinius, the very image of an angel, has chosen to obscure the origins of his Legion, and prevents outsiders from setting foot on his home world. A remembrancer attempts to discover why.

Listen to it because...

The 17th instalment of the Horus Heresy Primarchs series offers a glimpse of the Blood Angels Legion – and its celebrated primarch – from the outside, as we peer into the shrouded secrets of its past.

The story:

Sanguinius is the Great Angel, most beloved of all the primarchs, his mighty exploits celebrated throughout the entire Imperium as the Crusade expands into the void. And yet the origins of his Legion are shrouded in mystery and rumour, his unique physical form is an enigma, and his perilous home world remains off-limits to all but his own secretive people.

When a discredited remembrancer arrives with the expeditionary fleets to chronicle the primarch’s deeds, he has to work hard to uncover the truth behind the legends. As he accompanies the \\IX Legion to war against the enemies of the Emperor, the curious scholar comes to learn much more than he expected – not just about the subjects of his study, but also the nature of the Imperium itself.

Great

One of the better primarch novels with insights into Sanguinius and the Blood Angels, and with a revisit to where it all began

A first rate Primarch Novel

An excellent insight into Sanguinius and the Blood Angels. Wraight brings to life the lore in a sympathetic way that keeps you wanting to learn more just as the protagonist does. Keeble's performance is top notch as usual.

would love to listen more about pre sanguinous era
revenant legions history. Also Sanguinous was kinda one dimensional in conversation.

From an unusual POV

From the POV of a story telling remembrancer this book takes an interesting look at the flaws in the emperors legions. Listen to the end.

Tragic, but not in the way I was expecting.

This book captures the dichotomy of the blood angels; their awful flaw and their admirable but doomed attempts to overcome it, in a way few others have. Samguinius is shown to be remarkably human, glorious not for his power or prestige, but for his kindness and integrity. This makes the culmination of the book, and what the imperium requires he become, to be even more awful and poinient. A true example of the idea of grim dark.

The righting is fantastic, the descriptions are evocative and insightful, and the voice acting superb!

Another Great One

Wraight’s stuff is always fantastic. Giving what was once just lore an interest emotional dimension. Any fans of the Horus Heresy should pick this up to see a traditionally heroic legion cross-examined.

Also always v funny when a narrator in a Black Library book is a writer.

Really liked the perspective on this one

Enjoyable listen written from a different angle than the usual style of black library writing

An insight into a complex legion and primark

A well narrated story by Jonathan Keeble of the Blood Angels, and their beloved but flawed primark Sanguinius.

I hate the female.

there is a female remembeancer I dont remember her name. But she is everything that is wrong with the imperium. She infuriates me. Poor sanguinius :( poor luprecal. Just retcon the entire story to be about luprecal not turning traitor plz
