About this listen
1964 - London. Dolly Vincent is born to an East End gangster but is sent away for her own protection.
Mad Mick is hell-bent on his revenge and will stop at nothing to kill her. Estranged from her family, she becomes a successful barrister, but after defending a young Italian man she finds herself caught up in a secret held by a high court judge.
Tortured and left for dead, she flees London and heads to New York. Only the Vincents know where she is...but even they don't know the truth.
Now it’s 1990, and Francesca is back to face her demons...but this time she is not alone. One woman, three names.

Laughed & Cried! Amazing!
Wow amazing audio listen. Interesting and captivating storyline with incredible narration. I was hooked from beginning to end. Wonderful performance with such variance in dialect and tone by Annie.
I will be listening to more audiobooks by Kerry Barnes and Annie Aldington.
Definitely 5 stars and a recommended listen!

Not My Cup of Tea
I think it's safe to say that I won't be buying any more audiobooks by Kerry Barnes but I recognise that the book has been written with some skill and with a particular audience in mind. The words stay simple, the sentences stay short, and the meaning is clear and direct. The plot moves forwards at a fair lick. My guess is that it will appeal to those who don't want a book to be hard work, and who cherish their Cockney and Mafia sterotypes.
The villians are real mustache-twirling nasties, without any redeeming features. If they seem to do anything nice it's only to ingratiate themselves in pursuit of some heinous end. Oh- and when I say villains, I mean the REAL villains, not the cheerful Cockney crew who just do a bit of illegal arms trading and never kill anyone unless they really deserve to die. These folk are to a man (and woman) rough diamonds with hearts of gold who look out for one another, fiercely tribal people who can be relied on to avenge any slight suffered by a member of their family. In the course of the book our Cockney heroes meet some nice powerful, wealthy Italian Americans who share their values, and form a formidable Anglo-American team.
In short it's a particular kind of escapist fantasy. I'm certainly not above a bit of escapist fantasy and I don't think books should necessarily be works of high art, so I'm not suggesting anybody should feel ashamed if they like the sound of this. For the right person it could be a good read / listen on the beach, but it's not going to be for everyone and it wasn't for me.

The twist and turns of the story, fantastic
I'm a great fan of Kimberly Chambers but have listened to all her great books, I am so excited to have found Kerry Barnes, this is the first book I have listened to by Kerry and I was kept on the edge of my seat throughout, I loved all the characters and never anticipated the turnaround in the storyline, fantastic listen, you won't be disappointed.
