About this listen

There's no other book like this. Longtime running writer Scott Douglas marshals expert advice (including his own, cultivated from more than 100,000 miles of personal experience), and a growing body of scientific research to show how running can make us happier.

How? Everyone knows that running builds stronger muscles and a healthier heart; science now shows it also helps develop a healthier brain. For those struggling with depression and anxiety, a consistent running routine can enhance the mental-health benefits of talk therapy, antidepressants, and cognitive behavioral therapy. The key to running's therapeutic power lies in its lasting physiological effects, inducing changes in brain structure and chemistry that other forms of exercise don't. Thanks to the body's release of natural pain-relievers that includes the best mood boost in all of sports.

Running is my therapy is no longer just a mantra for seasoned runners; with science behind him, Douglas presents proven methods so that we can all use running to improve our mental health and live happier - in and out of running shoes.

Great read

Helped give perspective on my running
I’m a new runner in my late 40s and had started to put too much pressure on myself if I couldn’t run, listening to this book has helped... would highly recommend it! 😊

while I thought this would be an interesting book, it is so heavy with facts and figures it nearly sent me to sleep.
i tried to finish it but it was such a slog I gave up half way through

Great Listen ,, with some great advice and insight

I really enjoyed the breakdown of each part of the Mental health routes available,
Every variation of discipline with a link to Running and a pretty good answer of their effectiveness.

CBT and Running, other mental health discipline's,
I did enjoy the explanation then the route taken was explained and assessed in turn, it made for a well rounded listen with some great possibility's
I took on board some of the points and I am very sceptical on others,
However it explained each part in a manner that was interesting and made a lot of sense,

I did learn a lot from this that I will use in my own running and Mental Health - Rehabilitation

Sweet, poignant, powerful

I also have deep deep deep enduring sadness in my life, since I was a kid. I'm 50 now. I bought a pair of trainers and started running March 25th 2020 (day 1 of lockdown in London). I've not looked back since.

This book is both a rallying cry, self help, and also factual.

Peace and love to my brothers and sisters

Very interesting and well narrated.

I really enjoyed this. It felt like a great companion to my running. Explains why I suspected running was making me feel better.

Good

This was fairly helpful but there were lots of statistics and results of studies mentioned that made it a bit boring. There were snippets of useful information throughout and some of these are summarised in the appendix.
