not keen on the narration

as others have said, it's a bit short, which I guess means I'm looking forward to hearing more, but the robotic ramblings don't help with the expositional dialogue , trying to cram too much info in wooden and almost forced conversations, Drew is an excellent writer but have noticed this style in previous series

Lovely story disliked narration style

First, that's the first time an author's note has made me cry! As a past owner of a corgi cross, even before it was confirmed that wobble was one, I recognised him as such 😍

Narration note - this is narrated in a style that's common in America and I assume is an intentional choice. Basically it's a really flat monotone delivery. I actually found myself listening for the breath in the first minute or so because I thought it was was AI! I hate this style of narration but I guess others like it? Anyway, the story was good enough that I persevered through my initial distaste and eventually I was into the story enough that stopped noticing it.

Story is lovely, interesting and focused. In a full novel, this would basically be act one. It serves as a good introduction to a new world with focus on characters and tempting glimpses of the wider world history and forces at work.

I'm pleased to hear that more stories with these characters are planned but I may opt to go the standard book route if the narration choice is the same in the next one.

Like a corgi... brilliant but very short

As a fan of Drew Hayes, I was excited to start a new series of his and was not disappointed. The world building and characters are vivid...and yet I'm left a bit disappointed that the book ends after 3 hours and doesn't introduce more characters.

This felt like it could have been the first few chapters in a much larger, world-spanning novel.

I still want to buy the next one, I just hope our heroes make friends, go on adventures, and start to explore the book's potential a bit more.
