Summary
Rounding the Mark is the seventh darkly humorous audiobook in Andrea Camilleri's Inspector Montalbano series.
He began swimming in slow, broad strokes. The sea smelled harsh, stinging his nostrils like champagne, and he nearly got drunk on it....
In a fraction of a second, Montalbano realized he'd struck a human foot. Somebody else was floating right beside him, and he hadn't noticed. 'Excuse me,' he said hastily, flipping back onto his belly and looking over at the other. The person beside him didn't answer, because he wasn't doing the dead man's float. He was actually dead. And, to judge from the way he looked, he'd been so for quite a while.
Increasingly disillusioned with his government and the world in general, Inspector Montalbano is considering retirement. He is starting to feel his age, and even his favourite restaurant has closed. But when he bumps into a dead body during a bracing swim, his detective instincts are aroused once more. Particularly when the most likely identity of the victim is a man already long buried....
Rounding the Mark is followed by the eighth audiobook in the series, The Patience of the Spider.

Camilleri The Italian Naster Of Mystery
Wonderful story.
Captures the atmosphere of southern Italy and especially Sicilian life brilliantly.
Mark Meadows narration is fabulous.
Beautiful escapist whodunnit fiction

Marvellous, again!
Witty, easy to listen to, totally engaging, excellent narration (as always in this series)...a slightly rougher, tougher Montalbano than in other previous books in the series, but loves his food just as much. Excellent... on to the next one now, but to savour them properly they should not be binged... one every three or four weeks is about right. I don’t want to finish the series too quickly!

As always, a great read
I was reading this when I heard of Andreas
Camilleri’s sad death. This is one of my favourite Montalbano book. A really good plot, nice humour and well-written. Hard to put down.

A bit too political for me
Using the good inspector as a one man vigilante in support of illegal immigration to Italy by boat has ruined what could have been a good detective story. If I want to be moralised at, I will read a polemic on the subject.
What I want from detective fiction is just that, a good detective story, not someone's lefty view of the world.
Very disappointing in what is usually a good quirky series.
