Summary

Summer 1911. A scorching heatwave engulfs the quiet town of Littleton Cotterell and brings about an unusually early harvest. The villagers are thrilled, but events quickly turn sour when one of them turns up dead in an apple orchard, stabbed through the heart.

Amateur sleuth Lady Hardcastle and her trusty lady’s maid, Flo, suddenly have a juicy case on their hands. Might the mysterious stranger they recently met in the village be to blame?

When a second cider-related murder takes place, it quickly becomes clear that there’s more to these mysterious deaths than meets the eye. The daring duo uncover whispers of an ancient order and moonlit rituals. And evidence points to a macabre secret in the village stretching back years. A secret someone will do anything—anything at all—to keep hidden.

Something is rotten, that’s for sure. With the local constabulary baffled, Lady Hardcastle and Flo must use all their powers of wit and whimsy to get to the bottom of the dastardly deed. But can they catch the killer before any more people drop dead?

A fun filled mystery - particularly like the narrator who has a lovely voice and good command of voices for all the different characters

Great series!

I am hooked on this series and was so pleased when a new one came out. I love to find out more about Lady H and Florence Armstrong. This story is not my favourite; I didn’t find it as engaging as the others but still extremely enjoyable.

Loved it!

I really do love this series. I think the relationship between Lady Emily Hardcastle and her maid Florence Armstrong is just brilliant. Though I fully understand why Gertie Fairleigh-Stroud struggled with it initially. It would be hard for anyone to understand given they are not that long past the turn of the century. But knowing what they have been through, you can see why it developed as it did. I love the banter between the two main characters, and as this comes from their experiences together it is totally understandable.

Another Excellent Lady Hardcastle!

T.E Kinsey is my favourite author in this genre and I look forward to every instalment of Lady Hardcastle and Flo and their brilliant, clever and funny interactions. The storylines never disappoint and always keep you guessing and no one else apart from Elizabeth Knowelden could do these stories justice! I’m looking forward to the next book in November and hoping for many more 🤞🏻🤞🏻

just love this series.

A great listen. For me it's a perfect blend of historical theme, perfect narration, likable characters. the narrator creates individual personalities with changes in accents and vocal tones which provides great listening. I love the light humour and banter all which has kept me buying the next books in this highly recommended series

Witty and intriguing

Another entertaining read from TE Kinsey. Very amusing and addictive. I love the characterisation of the two friends and their village neighbours. The gentle rural life is woven through with fast-paced plotting, planning and action to solve the current mysterious crime. Just perfect.
