About this listen

Worldwide best-seller John Grisham goes rogue with his most suspenseful thriller yet....

Sometimes you have to fight dirty to get clean.

Sebastian Rudd takes the cases no one else wants to take: the drug-addled punk accused of murdering two little girls; a crime lord on death row; a homeowner accused of shooting at a SWAT team. l

Rudd believes that every person accused of a crime is entitled to a fair trial - even if he has to cheat to get one. He antagonises people from both sides of the law: his last office was firebombed, either by drug dealers or cops. He doesn't know or care which.

But things are about to get even more complicated for Sebastian. Arch Swanger is the prime suspect in the abduction and presumed murder of 21-year-old Jiliana Kemp, the daughter of the assistant chief of police. When Swanger asks Sebastian to represent him, he lets Sebastian in on a terrible secret . . . one that will threaten everything Sebastian holds dear.

Gritty, witty, and impossible to put down, Rogue Lawyer is the master of the legal thriller at his very best.

Simply the best book I have had this yr

Would you consider the audio edition of Rogue Lawyer to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version so am unable to comment.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Rogue Lawyer?

The whole book was amazing form start to finish, each case/story had you gripped. Each individual case showed a different dimension to the main character, Sebastian kept you guessing is he a good guy or bad? and even after finishing the book I could go either way.

Which character – as performed by Mark Deakins – was your favourite?

It was a one man Sebastian show all the way for me.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh and cry, each case pulled on a different emotion and that's what was so great about this book, it was fast paced and kept you engaged from the first page. You didn't know if Sebastian was right or wrong in how he handled each case but he certainly got the job done.

Any additional comments?

This really is a great read, the last few Grisham books for me have been a little flabby, they didn't seem to have any pace or any characters with any charactor. This is Grisham back on top form and I cannot rate this book highly enough.

Not his best

The central character is good and I found it easy to engage with him but the book is a series of cases, the only link being the lawyer. There is little tension which is a shame. The quality of the writing is good, the narration is excellent but the story is a bit half hearted

Excellent Grisham multi thread classic.

Having the multiple story lines running together and at points intertwining made for a captivating book. The narration was performed brilliantly with engaging character representations.

Did I blink and miss the end?

I was really enjoying this book after a somewhat pedestrian start. I liked our hero, I loathed his ex and I was suitably frustrated by most of his clients. In short I was really starting to get stuck into it all and then suddenly it was done. Finished. No warning. No closure. Half the storylines left hanging.

I assume there will be a follow on book but a warning up front that this is going to form part of a serial would have been nice. Even so, I would expect a better ending. It's almost like he just got bored of writing and stopped.

Very enjoyable story, well narrated.

A real classic Grisham story, with some clever twists and turns that keep you guessing. Different threads of cases weave in and out, with the main storyline always in sight. Warmly recommended.

Narration excellent - captures the essence of the man telling the story, with his relationship problems and his humanity showing through.

Enjoyable but disjointed.

An easy listen from Grisham but the story is a little disjointed and lacks a satisfactory conclusion.
