About this listen
Proud, violent, and impetuous, he despises his first wife, sells his mistress at a county fair, and forms a great love for the teenage gypsy Mirabell Starr. Alongside this turbulent story, runs that of his son David, with enemies of his own, and that of his gentle daughter, Deborah, with placid dreams that will not be realised in her father's house.

Rogue Herries review
I enjoyed the beautiful descriptions of Borrowdale & the fells. The story has many twists & turns. The novel was performed well except for a few mistakes on local place names. A classic novel that should be more well know.

A forgotten classic
Was intrigued to listen to Walpole’s most famous book . It is very well read. The story is interesting . His writing is a little stilted but he spins a good yarn .

Brilliant
Revisiting Rogue Herries after 55 years I am charmed even more by Hugh Walpole”s writing and this performance was exquisite. Cannot wait to listen to Judith Paris they are such evocative novels especially if you know that part of the Lake District and if you do not you will soon want to.

Rambling
I liked the history element of the novel. However, the characters have no depth, for example, why is Rogue Herries so unpleasant. Some scenes lifted straight from other novels and I found Herries’ fascination with the child Mirabelle weird.
I would not recommend bothering with this book unless you use to help you fall asleep at night. Dull!
