Jane og Tine er søstre og bor i Rødbyhavn. De arbejder som ekspeditricer i parfumeriet på færgeoverfarten Rødby-Puttgarden. Rundt om dem dør folk på stribe, sådan er det på de kanter. Mænd går ind og ud af deres liv. På samme måde var det også for deres mor og hendes mor igen.

Rødby-Putpgarden vandt Kritikerprisen i 2005. I begrundelsen skriver Litteraturkritikernes Lav:

Et nyt, både konsekvent og overrumplende højdepunkt i et prægnant forfatterskab, der langt fra er så nyklassisk pænt, som rygtet siger. Inciterende cool og vist og lattermildt fortæller romanen om to søstre ved Danmarks ende, der pauserer fra livet og hjemsøges af døden.
