About this listen
A woman struggling. A new job. More than she ever thought she'd find.
Widowed with four young children, Nancy was left broken beyond words. She's struggled to rebuild her life and herself, so she and the kids can move on. But she never thought about meeting someone new. How could she love anyone without betraying the husband she lost fighting for their country?
Thorne has been teaching for years. He loves his job, but doesn't take time for much else. In the first week of school, a new teacher started in the classroom across the hall. She's not the usual fresh out of school, 23-year-old teacher they usually get at Blackjack High. She’s older, and the sadness in her eyes speaks to him, but he can tell she's not ready for anything but friendship.
Can Nancy and Thorne make it through the tangle of emotions trying to keep them apart?

Sweet
Risking It All is an excellent addition to the Highland County Heroes. This time the story focuses on two fellow teachers finding love. Nancy, a military widow with four young children, struggles to find her footing again and settling into a new teaching job. Thorne, a teacher from across the hall, is intrigued by Nancy. This is a beautifully written story of second chances and romance. The characters are well-rounded, real, and genuine. Bump Turgeon's narration is excellent and much better than the previous book. Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook, and strongly recommend it. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Hero
I love listening to Bump Turgeson, a great voice , that makes the listening experience a joy .
A wonderful heart warming, tragic story of a war widow, mother of 4. Her struggles with life and love.
Nancy finds herself beginning her career as a teacher a little later than most. Thorne teaches across the hall, and is intrigued by the new teacher, who seems to have a few walls built up around her.
A wonderful listen .

Love this series?
Melissa Stevens! She is not new to me, I had the pleasure of listening to her motorcycle series. When I saw the Highland County Heroes out on audio, I grabbed them, and it’s so good! Risking it All is book 5 of the series, but each one is a standalone and each hero is yummy! Thorne is the teacher across the hall from the new hire, Nancy. This is Nancy’s first job as a teacher, and can use all the support she can get. Widowed with 4 children, she has her hands full, and Thorne is at her side. But she isn’t ready to delve into a new relationship is she? Will Thorne love her and her children? Will this mean she no longer loves her husband? I loved this story for the family feeling it gave me. Not only does Stevens add in some humor with Thorne’s family names, but she lets us get to know Nancy’s kids, fall in love with them and take her journey to letting go, learning to love and trust and find that new normal. Nancy is easy to relate to. Her fears are realistic, she has a lot to take on and her loss is real. Thorne is amazing. He is the man we look for, loving Nancy’s kids and letting us enjoy that slow burn between them. It’s sweet and entertaining and the perfect hero in Highland County.
Bump Turgeson continues his narration of this series. I am enjoying his voices and find he relates to the characters in a way that flows through in his performance. He makes the story entertaining.

Very sweet!
Not all heroes are in uniform. Some are quietly teaching mathematics in the classroom across the hall. Or so Nancy discovers when she starts her new job as a high school English teacher.
Nancy, mother of 4 kids under the age of 10, recently widowed, needed a friend more than a lover. Despite his instant attraction to her, Thorne realises that fact from the start and steps in as the very best kind of friend. Seriously wow... his personality is amazing but his maturity is off the charts! I absolutely loved the natural and realistic dynamics between the two as they face their own insecurities and grow their friendship.
This audiobook is heavy on the sweetness, feel-good factor. And I love that Melissa Stevens made this wonderful, ordinary, mathematics teacher a hero because he certainly was one!
