About this listen

AD 211: Septimius Severus, Emperor of Rome, has invaded what is now Scotland, but Tullius, second-in-command of the legendary Sixth Victrix Legion, has more to worry about. Severus’s eldest son, a young Caracalla, is already testing the limits of his power as his monstrous nature begins to reveal itself. With his family under threat of death from him, Tullius must balance their safety with a sworn duty to his emperor and turn to the only people who can help – those north of Hadrian’s Wall – his enemies.

Critic reviews

“M.D. Hall takes the time to capture the sights, smells, and atmosphere of Scotland, creating vivid descriptions that give readers a 'you are here' feel. Readers of historical fiction who look for drama and action against a backdrop of real events will applaud Ring of Lapis for its ability to capture the changing lives of ordinary people fielding extraordinary revolutionary times.” DONOVAN’S BOOKSHELF

Great Roman Britain historical fiction!

Couldn't stop listening to this! Was a great story and truly atmospheric. The production was very professional and very well told, with flavours of Jonathan Keeble in the telling. There main characters of Tullius and Antoninus were compelling, but my favourite was Heracles the Greek physician turned slave turned gladiator turned legionary. Clearly a stand-alone, but hope the author reads this review and writes a prequel or a sequel. A great tale that nails the details of life in Roman Britain in the 3rd century, so perfe t for anyone interested in Roman stuff!
