Summary

A magical story by one of Australia's best writers of fantasy.

Rhianna is in trouble at school again. She just can't get her magic spells to work, and when they go wrong, they go very wrong indeed. But it's not only Rhianna who is having problems. Magic is failing everywhere, and the Land itself is at risk.

Editor reviews

Dave Luckett's series The Rhianna Chronicles, for ages 9-12, is billed as "Harry Potter for girls". In the first book of the series (called The Girl, the Dragon, and the Wild Magic in the United States), the award-winning Australian children's writer introduces his heroine as she's poised on the verge of failing out of her "school for magic". But soon Rhianna discovers that her powers exceed those of her classmates and she must test them against a dragon.

Voice actress Mikaela Martin performs the entire fantasy series with equal parts action and emotion. She must have access to a narration spellbook, for her delivery is pitch-perfect.

Critic reviews

"Mikaela Martin does a fine job animating Rhianna and personifying the mighty dragon. Martin makes the listener care for Rhianna as she learns about her life-altering gift and her need to rein in her magic. The mean Mr. Spellright and his evil nephew, Rory, are keenly characterized. This is a quick listen for those who seek a fun visit to a world of magical spells and enchantments." ( AudioFile)
